Juhi Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan, long-time collaborators in the film industry, have also extended their partnership into the world of sports by co-owning the Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). At a recent event organized by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Juhi reminisced about the early days of managing the cricket franchise, revealing some intriguing behind-the-scenes details.

Juhi shared that she initially had reservations about the black and gold color scheme for KKR’s uniform, which was suggested by Shah Rukh. She explained her apprehension, saying, “We didn’t know anything about running a cricket franchise, and I remember going to Shah Rukh’s home for meetings, where literally from putting the jingle together, to thinking of the uniform they’ll have, everything was done in house. I still remember, he made it black and gold, Shah Rukh, and I was not happy with it. I thought ‘what is this black and gold?’ Because black is considered inauspicious, isn’t it? But they worked more than I did,”.

Juhi also recounted how Shah Rukh’s hectic schedule led to late-night meetings, which she found difficult to manage. “Shah Rukh used to be busy during the days. He was working a lot so our meetings would be scheduled for 10 pm. They would start by 11 pm. Then everyone would talk for a while so by the time the meeting would start, it would be 12-12:30 pm and I would start dozing off in the meeting. After 2-3 meetings, I stopped attending. I said you guys do this, I am not coming,” Juhi added.

The duo’s partnership extends beyond KKR, as they have shared the screen in numerous films such as “Darr,” “Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman,” “Ram Jaane,” “Yes Boss,” “Duplicate,” “Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani,” and “Bhoothnath.” They also co-founded the production house Dreamz Unlimited with filmmaker Aziz Mirza in the early 2000s, although Shah Rukh later established his own production company, Red Chillies Entertainment.

Currently, Shah Rukh Khan is set to appear in Sujoy Ghosh’s crime drama “King,” while Juhi Chawla was last seen in the Netflix India Original series “The Railway Men.” Together with Juhi’s husband, businessman Jay Mehta, they continue to co-own KKR, contributing to the team’s strategic and operational decisions.
