Release History and Controversies:

The film was set to release on 5 September 2023, but its release was further delayed amidst controversy. Objections by Sikh groups over film depicting the Emergency period led the Central Board of Film Certification to withdraw clearance so that further delay could be witnessed in releasing the film.
He has publicly mourned these delays going on, saying it costs both money and emotions and that film production cost a lot without much industry support.

Competition:

The film now faces a clash with Amar Kaushik’s Sky Force, an action thriller with Akshay Kumar on the big screen on 26 January 2025. This Republic Day clash may set the competition hot at box offices.

Kangana’s Vision:
This marks Kangana’s second directorial venture after 2019’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, showcasing her penchant for ambitious historical narratives. On social media, she called *Emergency* the story of “India’s most powerful woman” and a pivotal moment in the nation’s history.

Final Outlook:
The shift to January 2025 would also provide another opportunity for Emergency to reach audience precincts during a peak footfall period, though how quickly the movie rides out its controversy and stays the course against strong competition remains to be seen.
