Sunila Pyarelal Sharma, wife of legendary music composer Pyarelal Sharma, passed away on July 12 at the age of 78. Her family shared the news through an official statement on Instagram, saying that she passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loved ones. The announcement was also shared on social media by singer Priyanka Mitra.
In the statement, the family remembered Sunila Sharma with love and gratitude, describing her as a source of strength and support for everyone around her. They also thanked relatives, friends and well wishers for their prayers and support during this difficult time.
The statement read, “With deep grief and love in our hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Amma, Sunila Pyarelal Sharma, who left for her heavenly abode on 12 July, 2026, surrounded by the warmth of her family.”
It further said, “Amma lived a life of grace, devotion, and quiet strength – a pillar of unconditional love to all who knew her. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing she is finally at peace. We are deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support of our family and friends during this time. Your work here is beautifully finished, Amma. Rest in eternal peace.”
The family has announced that Sunila Sharma’s last rites will take place on July 13 at the Dattatray Road Crematorium in Santacruz West, Mumbai. Family members, close friends and people from the entertainment industry are expected to attend the funeral and pay their final respects.
Although Sunila Sharma was not a professional singer or performer, she was well known in the Indian music industry through her association with Pyarelal Sharma. Over the years, she accompanied the veteran composer to several public events, award functions and television appearances. In recent years, she was seen with him on music reality shows, including Indian Idol 13, where they appeared as special guests during a tribute to the legendary composer duo Laxmikant Pyarelal.
Pyarelal Sharma is one half of the iconic Laxmikant Pyarelal music duo, which created some of Hindi cinema’s most memorable songs. Along with the late Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar, he composed music for hundreds of films, including Bobby, Amar Akbar Anthony, Karz, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Hero, Mr. India, Ram Lakhan, Tezaab, Ek Duuje Ke Liye and Utsav. Sunila Sharma’s passing marks a personal loss for the veteran composer and his family.
