Ace theater artist Baharul Islam is a well known name in the world of Indian Cinema. An alumnus of National School of Drama (NSD), he has acted in more than 80 plays, designed and directed 30 plays for his theater troupe, Seagull. RODOR SITHI (2014), the Assamese feature film which he directed was the highest grossing film in the recent past.
Venturing from regional films to Hindi film industry, Baharul Islam has signed for a Hindi feature film MERIT ANIMAL along with his wife Bhagirathi Bai Kadam who is also an NSD alumnus. The duo play the role of mother and father of the main protagonist. The film is a black comedy on the education system. It is the first film based on this genre. About half the shoot of the film has been completed so far.
The film is directed by Junaid Imam, a television director from Mumbai, who is better known for his two short films, MELAWA and EK KULTA EK RAJA, which has won several prizes in national and international arena. Both his films have been screened at more than 65 international festivals and won around 40 prizes in various categories.
