Priyadarshan’s Emotional Take: “I Always Knew About Rajpal Yadav’s Struggle”

Priyadarshan asks producers to pay Rajpal Yadav extra amid financial woes. The duo reunites for a comic caper and Bhooth Bangla

Actor Rajpal Yadav has been a familiar face in Hindi cinema for decades, earning widespread love for his impeccable comic timing and memorable supporting roles. From scene-stealing performances in slapstick comedies to nuanced character portrayals, he has consistently managed to leave audiences in splits. However, despite his professional success and popularity, the actor is currently grappling with serious financial difficulties that have cast a shadow over his career.

Stepping in during this challenging phase is veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan, who shares a long-standing association and warm bond with Yadav. The two have collaborated on numerous projects over the years, building not just a professional partnership but also a deep personal friendship. Concerned about Yadav’s ongoing financial struggles, Priyadarshan has reportedly requested the producers of his upcoming film to pay the actor more than his usual remuneration.

In a recent conversation with Mid-Day, the director revealed that he has known Yadav for over two decades and feels a sense of responsibility toward him. He disclosed that he approached the producers of his next film, Jubilee Films, and urged them to offer Yadav a higher fee considering his current situation. “I told the producers of my next to pay Rajpal more than what he charges because of his situation. We want to save him,” Priyadarshan reportedly said. The producers, he added, were understanding and agreed to his request.

In the forthcoming project, which is said to be a comic caper, Yadav will reportedly take on a negative role. Interestingly, this film is expected to star Pankaj Tripathi alongside him, promising an engaging blend of humor and drama. While further details about the storyline remain under wraps, the collaboration has already generated interest due to the director’s strong track record in comedy.

Priyadarshan has openly expressed his affection and concern for Yadav, describing him as a good-hearted individual who made certain mistakes due to limited formal education. According to the filmmaker, he was aware of the actor’s troubles and therefore continued to cast him in his films and even recommended him for advertisement projects to ensure a steady stream of work. His efforts reflect not only professional loyalty but also genuine empathy.

The duo’s association dates back to the early 2000s. Although Priyadarshan first noticed Yadav’s talent in the 2000 film Jungle, their first collaboration was the comedy Malamaal Weekly. The film became popular for its humor and ensemble cast, and Yadav’s performance was widely appreciated. Since then, he has been a recurring presence in many of Priyadarshan’s films, becoming an integral part of the director’s comic universe.

At present, Priyadarshan is immersed in the post-production work of his upcoming comedy-horror film Bhooth Bangla. The film boasts a star-studded cast including Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi. Backed by producers Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Akshay Kumar, the film is slated for a theatrical release on April 10, 2026.

As Rajpal Yadav navigates this difficult period, the support extended by Priyadarshan highlights the importance of solidarity within the film industry. While audiences continue to cherish the laughter he brings to the screen, it is this off-screen camaraderie that now offers hope for a brighter and more stable future for the beloved actor.
