R Madhavan has officially confirmed that he will play a much larger role in Dhurandhar 2, the sequel to Aditya Dhar’s high-octane spy thriller Dhurandhar. The film, which released less than a week ago, is already performing strongly at the box office and has sparked tremendous excitement for the upcoming instalment. Starring Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Sara Arjun, the first film followed an undercover Indian spy infiltrating terrorist networks in Pakistan. It ended with a major announcement: Dhurandhar 2 will arrive on March 19, 2026.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Madhavan praised director Aditya Dhar, calling him remarkably calm amid the chaos of making an intense action thriller. “Aditya Dhar is a monk,” he said. “After working with him in Dhurandhar, I want to work with him again and again.”
The actor also acknowledged fan conversations about wanting more of his character, Ajay Sanyal, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau. Addressing this directly, he revealed, “My screen presence is limited in the first part. But in the second part, which will release in March, there is a lot of my character as he trains Ranveer’s character in skills of espionage warfare.”
This confirmation hints that Dhurandhar 2 will deeply explore the mentor–trainee relationship between Ajay Sanyal and Ranveer Singh’s Jaskirat, who transforms into the formidable Hamza. While the first film only offered glimpses of this evolution, the sequel is set to highlight the intense preparation, psychological transformation, and tactical training that shape the spy’s new identity.
Reflecting on his eventful year, Madhavan added, “I started the year with Hisaab Barabar and I’m ending it with Dhurandhar, one of the most important films of my career. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
