After the massive success of Animal, fans have been eagerly waiting for news about its much-anticipated sequel, Animal Park. Now, Ranbir Kapoor has finally shared a fresh update — and it looks like the wait will be longer than expected.
In a recent interview with Deadline Hollywood, Ranbir confirmed that Animal Park is still a few years away from going on floors. The actor revealed that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is currently busy with his next project, Spirit, which stars Prabhas in the lead. Only after Spirit is completed will Vanga return to the world of Animal. “The director is right now making another film. We should start that film in 2027. It’s a bit away,” Ranbir said, clarifying that production on Animal Park will not begin anytime soon.
While the delay may disappoint fans, Ranbir assured that exciting plans are already in motion for the sequel. When asked whether he had read the script, the actor revealed that Vanga has shared the broad creative vision for the next chapter. “He just kind of flirted with what he really wants to do with the movie. He wants to make it in three parts. The second part is called Animal Park,” Ranbir explained, confirming that the franchise is being developed as a trilogy.
Adding to the intrigue, Ranbir also disclosed that Animal Park will feature him in a double role — portraying both the protagonist and the antagonist. “We have been sharing ideas from the first film itself on how he wants to take the story forward. It’s very exciting because now I get to play two characters — the antagonist and the protagonist. It’s an extremely exciting project and an extremely original director, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it,” he said.
For viewers who haven’t seen Animal, Ranbir offered a hint about how the double role will unfold. He explained that the antagonist undergoes plastic surgery and becomes a body double of the protagonist, setting the stage for intense psychological and physical conflict.
Released on December 1, 2023, Animal followed the dark transformation of a son whose fractured bond with his father drives him toward vengeance and violence. The film starred Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, and emerged as a blockbuster at the box office.
