Remaking Big B’s films is Bollywood’s unspoken trend

The craze for Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his highly popular films will never cease. Such is the appeal of Big B's movies and the memorable characters played by him that you want to watch it over and over. Filmmakers too find his movies as profitable ventures to remake.

AGNEEPATH: Big B's 90s cult film AGNEEPATH is the latest example. The movie was remade by the same production house, Dharma Productions which made the original film. Hrithik played the role of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, which was essayed by Amitabh Bachchan in the original version. The remake turned out to be a big hit of the year 2012.

ZANJEER: Filmmaker Prakash Mehra's ZANJEER, which catapulted the then not-so known Amitabh Bachchan to fame and gave his first big hit, is being remade by director Apoorva Lakhia. The remake is presented by Reliance Entertainment and jointly produced by Reliance Entertainment, Adai Mehra Productions Private Limited and Flying Turtle Films. It is being said that Priyanka Chopra might star in the film. We hope ZANJEER remake is also welcomed with open arms much like AGNEEPATH remake.

SHOLAY: Titled AAG (originally titled as RAM GOPAL VARMA KI AAG), the film was director RGV's take on Ramesh Sippy's classic, SHOLAY. Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan, who was a part of the original SHOLAY and played the character of Jai, essayed the role of Gabbar Singh in the remake. Ramu's audacious attempt to remake the cult classic SHOLAY in his own style was a big letdown. The film not only bombed at Box-office but also touted as the worst of RGV.

DON: While Ramu couldn't create any magic with the remake of SHOLAY, the multi-talented Farhan Akhtar not only remade the classic DON which originally starred Amitabh Bachchan, but he also made a sequel to his own interpretation of this classic. Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan played Big B's role in the remake with much elan and created his own niche.

SATTE PE SATTA: One of the most adored hits of Amitabh Bachchan, SATTE PE SATTA is being remade with Sanjay Dutt essaying the role of Big B. Besides acting, Sanjay is also producing the film and filmmaker Soham Shah is directing it. Karisma Kapoor, who is set to make her comeback after a long hiatus, will portray the role of Hema Malini in the remake.

AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY: This yet another Amitabh Bachchan starrer blockbuster, which was helmed by Godfather of commercial potboilers, Manmohan Desai, is being highly considered for remake. In fact media was rife with the news that Khan Brothers (Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail) will star in the remake. Even filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker had expressed his desire to remake AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY sometime back. However, the talks are still on and nothing has been finalised yet. Let's hope it soon happens.

ABHIMAAN: Filmmaker Rajiv Menon was quite keen to bring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan together to re-create the magic of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan's yesteryear blockbuster ABHIMAAN. However the project could never take off due to several reasons.
