“Sorry Aamir Khan Sahab, That Film of Yours Didn’t Work”: Akshay Kumar’s Humorous Take on His Marriage

Akshay Kumar Reveals the Funny Condition Twinkle Khanna Gave Him Before Marriage

Bollywood hunk Akshay Kumar recently spoke about his marriage to writer and ex-actress Twinkle Khanna in an open interview on Aap Ki Adalat, sharing the unusual and funny circumstances that led to their marriage. It all began as a casual relationship on movie sets in the 1990s and gradually evolved into a deep bond one that eventually led to marriage, but with an offbeat twist.

Akshay revealed that Twinkle had humorously imposed a strange condition prior to agreeing to his marriage proposal. Twinkle’s acting career was tanking at the time, with a series of box office failures.

Basing her future on what she imagined to be the surefire success of her then-upcoming film Mela, co-starring Aamir Khan, she informed Akshay she’d agree to marry him only if the movie flopped. Much to her dismay (and to Akshay’s relief), Mela bombed at the box office, and the rest, of course, is history.

She herself explained to me that she did 12 films and just one worked,” Akshay remembered. “Unko actually writer banna tha. She wanted to become a chartered accountant. She had no shauk (interest) in films, but she joined the field because of circumstances.

In a lighter vein, Akshay even gave Aamir Khan credit for playing cupid indirectly, stating, “Sorry Aamir Khan sahab, your movie didn’t get made. But because of you, I got married.”

Their wedding too was as unconventional as their courtship. Far from being the typical Bollywood spectacle, the couple opted for a low-key ceremony. Akshay remembered that both of them were working until their wedding night. By 6 pm, she also came back from her shooting and we got married on a friend’s balcony,” he divulged.

Actually, Twinkle phoned Aamir Khan hours before the ceremony and invited him at the last minute, leaving him stunned. “*Kyon nahin ho sakti hai? Shaadiyan, affair jo hote hain, woh jaldi hi hote hain,” Akshay chuckled.

Their romance started in 1999 when they met while shooting International Khiladi. What Twinkle had assumed was going to be a short-lived affair evolved into a deeper, lifelong connection. The couple married on January 7, 2001, in a small ceremony with about 50 guests.

Akshay and Twinkle are now proud parents of son Aarav and daughter Nitara. Their long-lasting relationship is envied for its mix of humor, love, privacy, and respect for each other—showing the world that sometimes the most unlikely love stories become the strongest.
