Bollywood actor Siddhant Chaturvedi is gearing up to bring the visionary filmmaker V. Shantaram to life in an upcoming biopic, and excitement around the project continues to grow. After unveiling Siddhant’s striking first-look poster, the makers have now introduced another key character—acclaimed actress Tamannaah Bhatia, who steps into the role of the legendary actress Jayshree, V. Shantaram’s second wife and an iconic star of Indian cinema’s early decades.
On Tuesday, Camera Take Films unveiled Tamannaah’s first-look poster on Instagram, instantly sparking buzz among fans and industry colleagues alike. Draped in a pink Nauvari saree, Tamannaah radiates old-world charm, perfectly embodying the elegance and grace associated with Jayshree. The vintage styling, expressive poise, and soft palette together recreate the cinematic aura of a bygone era. Sharing the poster, the production house captioned it: “Jayashree – The star of an era, The strength behind a legacy, A chapter returning to history.”
The post drew praise from fellow actors, including Kajal Aggarwal, who commented “Beauty,” and Surbhi Jyoti, who echoed the appreciation with “beautiful.” Fans also celebrated the transformation, with one user writing, “Wow, Tamannaah is finally doing good cinema,” while another expressed excitement with “Omg, so excited.”
Opening up about the role, Tamannaah described it as both an honour and a responsibility. “It’s a great responsibility to portray a character rooted in one of the most influential eras of our cinema. And I feel immensely honoured to bring to life Jayashree, as she has been part of such legendary projects and the amount of grace she had was surreal,” she said. Reflecting on V. Shantaram’s legacy, she added, “Shantaram built a legacy that continues to shape generations, and decoding his universe has allowed me to witness the brilliance of the man behind the legend. Bringing a piece of that legacy to the screen is truly a special feeling.”
The film promises to be a sweeping historical biographical drama, chronicling V. Shantaram’s journey from the silent film era to his evolution as one of Indian cinema’s most influential storytellers. Known for classics like Dr Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani, Shakuntala, Navrang, and Do Aankhen Barah Haath, Shantaram’s innovations laid the foundation for modern filmmaking in India.
Presented by Rajkamal Entertainment, Camera Take Films, and Roaring Rivers Production, V. Shantaram is produced by Rahul Kiran Shantaram, Subhash Kale, and Sarita Ashwin Varde, with direction by Abhijeet Shirish Deshpande. The biopic aims to reintroduce a cinematic pioneer to a new generation.
