Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra has been put in the limelight after her absence from the funeral ceremony of her uncle, Raman Rai Handa, father of actress Mannara Chopra. While most of the members of the Chopra clan turned up to bid him goodbye in Delhi on June 18, Parineeti was not among them, and this sparked much controversy on social media.
Parineeti Posts London Photo During Family Grief
Early on the morning of June 19, Parineeti had put up a peaceful picture of a lake that was geo-tagged as London, UK, in her Instagram Stories. The fact that she went public with the post on the day following the funeral of her uncle appeared to be a veiled indication of her location and reason for not attending the ceremony. The actress, however, has not made any official comment on deciding to miss the ceremony.
The move has been watched closely since Parineeti has been known to spend a lot of time commuting from Delhi for her husband Raghav Chadha’s political engagements in Parliament. Her father Pawan Chopra and brother Sahaj Chopra were spotted attending the last rites, providing consolation to Mannara and the rest of the mourning family.
Priyanka Chopra Pays Tribute Online
Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who resides in the U.S., also did not attend the funeral in person. However, she shared a heartfelt tribute via Instagram Stories, writing, “You’ll always be in our hearts. Rest easy, Raman uncle (fufaji). Om Shanti.” Her message was accompanied by a touching photo, offering public condolences to the family.
A Tearful Goodbye by Mannara
Raman Handa, who was a practicing lawyer in the Delhi High Court, died on June 16 in Mumbai. He was 72 years old. His last rites were performed by his daughters, actress Mannara Chopra and Mitali Handa. Mannara, clearly heartbroken, was seen demanding that she be allowed to take her father’s mortal remains and was on the verge of collapsing during the ritual, needing to be supported by her mourning relatives, including mother Kamini Chopra Handa.
In a message, Mannara conveyed her grief: “With deepest grief and sorrow, we regret the sad passing of our beloved father who departed from us for his heavenly place on 16/06/2025. He was the backbone of our family.”
Close Family Ties
Kamini Chopra Handa, the late Raman Handa’s wife, is the paternal aunt of both Parineeti and Priyanka Chopra, making Mannara their first cousin. Given the close familial bond, Parineeti’s absence has sparked debate among fans, though the actress has chosen to remain silent so far.
