The Story of BYPASS ROAD
A suave hotshot fashion designer Vikram Kapoor (Neil Nitin Mukesh) meets with a fatal accident at night while crossing a ‘bypass’ road. Same night Vikram’s top-notch super model Sarah Brigenza (Shama Sikander) mysteriously ends her life. What follows is a series of events where the needle of suspicion changes direction as hidden secrets are revealed that threatens to change the course of ongoing faith, fate and more.

The heartbeats of an absorbing whodunit are the sequence of events that are surrounded by constant atmosphere of mystery, thrill and/or fear. Actor/singer cum mimicry artiste (Yes Neil is good in mimicry as well!!) turned writer Neil Nitin Mukesh debut is a tribute to the elements of doctors of the genre. Slight traces of the famous ‘Hitchkokian’, ‘Shyamalan’ approach is noticed – A sign board as a title, a peep through a window, gorgeous but mysterious women, the grey shades, passion, betrayal. It’s pure old school by heart presented in today’s time with a silky approach. The fondness of the writer towards the classic masked ‘Halloween’ killers like NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, FRIDAY THE 13TH is also noticed.
Nothing wrong in getting inspired, it’s the implementation with conviction and the writer Neil Nitin Mukesh stays true to the known ingredients and plays safe. Debutant Naman Nitin Mukesh’s understanding of the script and handling of the plot is at par with the writers vision. Don,t look for psychology and layers, the movie bypasses that and concentrates mainly on thrills, mystery and chills to please the masses. So sequences are manipulated to meet the requirement of the coming scene without much establishment at many places. But, at certain places Naman Nitin Mukesh just sends shivers through your spine – the bathtub scene for example.
Neil Nitin Mukesh leads the show and performs as per the demand of the character. Shama Sikander as Sarah adds the required oomph, mystery and vulnerability. Rajit Kapoor as Pratap – Neil’s father is fantastic. Manish Chaudhary as cop is competent. Gul Panag has an air of mystery around here but she gets less scope. Same for Adah Sharma who is good but she needed more meat in her role. Sudhanshu Pandey as Narang is good. Taher Shabbir as Jimmy – Sarah’s fiancé is competent.
Special mention for Daneil B. George background score is a must.
Flaws
BYPASSROAD fails to dig in and takes time to set the surroundings. It could have been more slick and alluring. The debutant writer director Neil and Naman have passed the test but they need at add some trademark of their own to surpass their BYPASS.

BYPASS – The debut of the Mukesh duo – Neil and Naman as writer and director has glaring loopholes but the sheer determination of the duo to please the traditional/loyal fans of whodunit thrillers is unshakable in this snaky, twisty ride. Do visit.
