Galat ‘pakade’ hai bhai.. this dramedy on groom kidnapping ends as such a tragedy. Even the charms of the suave Sidharth Malhotra and gorgeous Parineeti Chopra fail to save.
The story of JABARIYA JODI
Abhay Singh (Sidharth Malhotra) son of a strong man Hukum Dev Singh (Jaaved Jaaferi) runs the business of kidnapping greedy grooms, who demand dowry in Bihar’s Madhopur. Things change when Abhay Singh’s bachpan ka pyaar does the palat war ( matlab his childhood love comes back) as the feisty bindass Babli (Parineeti Chopra).
Review of JABARIYA JODI
Jabardasti aachi nahi ( force is not good) is repeatedly said in the movie and that is the time when the audience feel the maximum connection in this forceful encounter. This messy take on Bihar’s forced marriages is all over the place.
The lead pair Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra seem to be transported from Lokhandwala in Mumbai to Bihar without an insight on behavior, dialect etc. they look too urban for the role of Abhay and Babli. Their chemistry is nowhere in this 2 hrs 24 mins ka sheer boredom. Mediocre acting by Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra , over the top settings, a movie on Bihar set in U.P. a ‘firang’ like Elli Avram in that ‘zilla hilela’ number, two Punjabi songs, lack of logic, no research, out of sync milieu, the list is endless. Sanjeev K Jha, writes a script according to the convenience of actors, set or whatever. There is no source in this ‘Jabariya’ force.
Nothing works apart from some fantastic performance from Jaaved Jaaferi as Abhay’s father, Aparshakti Khurana as Balbir ( Babli’s lover), Chandan Roy Sanyal as Guddu. The biggest take away is Sanjay Mishra as Babli’s father – outstanding. Ironically like his character – the director Prashant Singh and writer Sanjeev K Jha are sleep walking. And in the midst of all these dialogues like – Baap ka khoon hai toh maa ka dhoodh bhi toh hoga”.. pops up. It’s a wonder what JABARIYA JODI is trying to say.
