Pop icon Britney Spears has fired back at ex-husband Kevin Federline following revelations from his upcoming memoir You Thought You Knew. The memoir, which includes serious concerns about Spears and their sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, has stirred controversy ahead of its release.
In a statement to People magazine, a representative for Britney, 43, criticized Federline for profiting off her name once again. “With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her — and sadly, it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” the rep said. The statement emphasized that Britney’s focus remains on her sons’ well-being amid the media frenzy. “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir The Woman in Me,” the representative added.
Federline, 47, who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, shares two sons with the singer — Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19. In his memoir, he alleges that during their teenage years, the boys made troubling claims about their mother. One particularly disturbing story claims Britney would stand silently in their doorway at night holding a knife, saying, “Oh, you’re awake?” before walking away without explanation.
Federline also expressed deep concern about Britney’s current mental state. “It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour,” he reportedly wrote, warning that something bad could happen if things don’t change.
He also criticized the Free Britney movement, suggesting it may have caused more harm than good, and believes it may have worsened the situation rather than helping the pop star regain control of her life.
