The first trailer for Thunderbolts starring Sebastian Stan and Florence Pugh is finally out

Exciting news for Marvel fans Thunderbolts has dropped its first teaser trailer, offering a glimpse of the misfit team of anti-heroes set to shake up the MCU. The film, directed by Jake Schreier, is slated for release on May 2, 2025. The trailer showcases a group of reformed villains, gathered by the U.S. government for covert missions, adding a fresh, irreverent tone to the superhero landscape.

Leading the ensemble are familiar faces from previous Marvel films. Sebastian Stan reprises his role as Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, a key figure from the Captain America franchise. Joining him are Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova and David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov (Red Guardian), both beloved characters from Black Widow. The team also includes Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Geraldine Viswanathan as Valentina’s assistant, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, and Olga Kurylenko returning as Taskmaster.

In addition to the core team, Harrison Ford is set to make a special appearance as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, now the U.S. President. There’s also buzz that Laurence Fishburne (as Bill Foster) and Rachel Weisz (as Melina Vostokoff) will return in their respective MCU roles.

The film, which marks the 36th entry into the MCU, takes inspiration from Kurt Busiek’s comic series. It follows this band of misfits, led by Pugh’s Yelena Belova, who are tasked with handling the dangerous jobs no one else will. Marvel’s description of the movie hints at a unique mix of humor and action, with Yelena being described as a “depressed assassin” leading the least likely group of characters in the MCU.

Produced by Marvel’s mastermind Kevin Feige, with Scarlett Johansson among the executive producers, Thunderbolts boasts a screenplay crafted by Eric Pearson (*Black Widow*), Lee Sung Jin (creator of Beef), and Joanna Calo (The Bear). This highly anticipated film promises to explore complex characters, offer intense action, and bring an edgy new flavor to the MCU.
