Kanye West, now legally known as Ye, is the focus of a powerful new documentary titled In Whose Name?, which promises an intimate and unfiltered exploration of the rapper’s tumultuous personal and public life. The trailer, released on August 13, offers raw moments that chronicle Ye’s mental health struggles, troubled marriage to Kim Kardashian, career setbacks, and controversial statements.
The trailer opens with Ye walking in a circle surrounded by Yeezy sneakers, a likely nod to his 2019 Forbes cover shoot. A voiceover from the rapper reveals, “I’m off my meds for five months now,” setting the tone for what’s to come.
Inside His Marriage, Mind, and Meltdowns
Directed by Nico Ballesteros, the documentary was shot over six years and features thousands of hours of footage. It highlights both the softer and darker sides of the 48-year-old rapper—his tender moments with daughter North West, now 11, and his more volatile outbursts, including a tense exchange with Kim where he abruptly cuts her off mid-sentence.
One of the most emotional clips shows Ye during his 2020 presidential rally, tearfully revealing that he and Kim almost aborted their daughter. The trailer also includes intense monologues, like: “I would rather be dead than be on medication” and “You know the best thing about being an artist and bipolar? Anything you do and say is an art piece.”
