Pop superstar Katy Perry recently made headlines for her participation in an all-female spaceflight organized by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin. The brief 11-minute journey into space featured several high-profile women, including Lauren Sanchez, film producer Kerianne Flynn, TV host Gayle King, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen. While the mission was celebrated by many as a historic milestone, it also drew criticism from various celebrities and fans.
Lily Allen Calls the Flight “Out of Touch,” Then Apologizes
Among the most vocal critics was British singer and actor Lily Allen. On the April 17 episode of her podcast Miss Me?, Allen described the spaceflight as “out of touch,” pointing to the ongoing global economic challenges. “We’re on the brink of recession, people are f–king struggling to make ends meet,” she said.

However, Allen reversed her stance in the following episode on April 28, admitting her comments were rooted in “internalised misogyny.” Prompted by a conversation about Meghan Markle, Allen apologized on-air: “There was actually no need for me to bring her name into it… it was just completely unnecessary to pile on her.”
She concluded, “I’m really sorry, Katy Perry. I know you don’t listen to the show, but yeah, sorry.”
Other Celebrities Join the Criticism
Despite Allen’s apology, other celebrities such as Joe Rogan, Olivia Wilde, and Jessica Chastain also criticized the Blue Origin flight, questioning its timing and message during a time of global crisis.
