Steve Guttenberg is opening up about a dramatic rescue he carried out during the devastating 2025 Palisades fire, revealing he had to forcibly remove an elderly couple from their home to save their lives. The actor, best known for Police Academy, shared that he was alerted to the situation when a friend told him the couple was refusing to evacuate despite the fire rapidly approaching.
Determined to help, Guttenberg made his way to their home, even using a car that was not his after struggling to locate his own amid the chaos.
When he arrived, the situation escalated quickly. The couple initially refused to leave, reportedly telling him to go away while they continued watching television. As the danger intensified, Guttenberg said a heated argument broke out, forcing him to take extreme action.
He ultimately broke into the home and physically carried the couple out to safety. Despite his efforts, he admitted the pair were not happy with him in the moment, even saying they “hated” him for intervening.
The story adds to previously shared accounts of Guttenberg’s actions during the wildfire, where he also helped clear abandoned cars to make way for emergency vehicles in the Pacific Palisades area.
Reflecting on the experience, Guttenberg emphasized the importance of community during crises, underscoring how ordinary people often step up in extraordinary ways when disaster strikes.
