Netflix’ Rebecca trailer: Lily James and Armie Hammer’s gripping dialogues

Netflix released the first trailer for 'Rebecca', and it teases a gothic mystery.

The first trailer for ‘Rebecca’ is out now, and it teases a gothic mystery.

Netflix released the gripping trailer for the upcoming movie on Tuesday, featuring Lily James as Mrs. de Winter, a young woman who marries Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer), a wealthy widower.

‘Rebecca’ is a modern take on Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 classic gothic thriller novel of the same, which was adapted by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940.

Directed by Ben Wheatley, the film follows a newly married woman (James) as she arrives at the English estate of her wealthy (Hammer). Her whirlwind romance takes a turn into something more sinister, after she is haunted by the ghost of his dead first wife, Rebecca, whose legacy is kept alive by the sinister housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (Kristin Scott Thomas).

Netflix’s official synopsis for the film reads: “After a whirlwind romance in Monte Carlo with handsome widower Maxim de Winter, a newly married young woman arrives at Manderley, her new husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast.”

“Naive and inexperienced, she begins to settle into the trappings of her new life, but finds herself battling the shadow of Maxim’s first wife, the elegant and urbane Rebecca, whose haunting legacy is kept alive by Manderley’s sinister housekeeper Mrs Danvers.”

‘Rebecca’ also marks a reunion between Hammer and Wheatley after the pair worked together on the director’s ‘Free Fire.’ The film is one of two major releases for

Hammer, along with Kenneth Branagh’s star-studded Agatha Christie murder mystery ‘Death on the Nile,’ in which the actor stars opposite Gal Gadot. The film is set to release this October.

The film also features Tom Goodman-Hill, Keeley Hawes, Sam Riley and Ann Dowd in key roles.

‘Rebecca’ premieres in select theaters and on Netflix on Oct. 21.
