Captain America, step aside! Mickey 17 takes the top spot at the north america weekend box office

This past weekend saw a blend of fresh releases and strong holdovers at the North American box office. Warner Bros.’ Mickey 17 claimed the top spot, followed by Captain America: Brave New World and Last Breath. The latter two films, released in February, continued to show steady performance in their respective categories.

Mickey 17Debuts Strongly

Directed by Bong Joon Ho, Mickey 17 had a strong debut, grossing USD 19.1 million in its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada. Based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey 7, the sci-fi thriller stars Robert Pattinson as Mickey, a man who embarks on an interstellar voyage where his consciousness is repeatedly cloned after each mission. The film explores existential questions when one of Mickey’s previous iterations refuses to vanish. The movie features a stellar ensemble cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie, and Steven Yeun.

Captain America: Brave New World Holds Steady

The film delves into global threats and political intrigue as Wilson navigates the heavy responsibility of holding the shield. Despite mixed reviews, the film’s box office performance remains solid.

Last Breath Grips Audiences

Focus Features’ survival thriller Last Breath earned USD 4.2 million, recounting the true story of a deep-sea diver trapped underwater with limited oxygen. Featuring Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu, the film has captivated audiences with its tense cinematography and high-stakes drama.

With these diverse films making their mark, the March box office is poised for an exciting and competitive month ahead.
