South Indian megastar Mammootty’s latest action thriller Bazooka hit cinemas on April 10, 2025, and managed a respectable opening at the box office. Directed by debutant Deeno Dennis, the film earned ₹3.25 crore net across India on Day 1, according to Sacnilk. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the movie attracted solid footfalls, especially during night shows, thanks to Mammootty’s star power and the film’s action-packed appeal.

Theater Occupancy and Regional Performance
The Malayalam-language film saw an overall theater occupancy of 48.53% on Thursday. Viewership steadily climbed throughout the day, peaking during night shows with a 61.66% occupancy rate. Bazooka performed best in its home turf, Kerala, particularly in Kochi, which recorded a remarkable 75.50% overall occupancy, surging to 95% during night screenings. Trivandrum followed with 52.75% occupancy, while Chennai and Bengaluru posted moderate numbers at 45% and 25.25%, respectively.
Mixed Reactions from Critics and Audiences
While the opening numbers were solid, critical response leaned toward the negative. SCREEN critic Anandu Suresh gave the film just 1.5 stars, calling it another misfire in Mammootty’s recent streak. He criticized the film for lacking substance, writing, “Bazooka ends up as the sole guest at a lavishly arranged party.”
However, the film also found its supporters. X user Arshak Azeez praised the movie, calling it “a complete package” with “smart writing, powerful moments, and Mammootty in beast mode.” This division between audience excitement and critical skepticism highlights the polarizing nature of the film.
