After months of anticipation, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the next Game of Thrones spinoff, is officially set to premiere in January 2026. HBO unveiled the show’s first poster, featuring the iconic duo Dunk and Egg standing side by side, teasing their strong bond and the beginning of an epic journey.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s beloved Dunk and Egg novellas, the series takes place nearly a century before the events of Game of Thrones. Unlike the grand battles and intense political intrigue of House of the Dragon and the original series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms promises a more grounded and intimate story, offering fans a fresh perspective on Westeros.
The story follows Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk), a noble-hearted but inexperienced knight, and his unlikely squire, Egg—who later becomes King Aegon V Targaryen. Set in a time when the Targaryens still rule from the Iron Throne and dragons are not yet forgotten, the show is filled with hidden destinies, dangerous foes, and heartfelt adventures.
In a surprising reveal, co-creator Ira Parker told Entertainment Weekly that the show will not feature the traditional Game of Thrones title sequence. Instead, each episode will open with a minimalist title card. “It was probably the most stressful decision I made,” Parker admitted, adding that while difficult, the choice best serves the tone of the show.
The cast includes Peter Claffey as Dunk, Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle.
With House of the Dragon Season 3 also set to arrive in 2026, it’s shaping up to be a landmark year for Game of Thrones fans.
