Sonu Sood: SIMMBA will make me do some homework

0

Actor Sonu Sood has come on board for Rohit Shetty's upcoming entertainer SIMMBA. He says the challenging role will make him do a lot of homework.

The announcement about Sonu's entry into the SIMMBA cast comes after R. Madhavan made it clear that he can't be a part of the movie due to his shoulder injury. Sonu will join Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan in the movie.

Sonu told IANS: "I can't reveal much about the character, but all I can say is that it is one of the most challenging roles that I will be playing."

He will be seen as an anti-hero.

"I think it's exciting to have a role with multiple layers… and something which challenges you to work on it, always gives a high to an actor. This is something which will need me to work a lot and study a few things.

"Once the film comes out, people will come to know about it. And yes, it will put me to do some kind of homework," Sonu added.

The actor is currently working on his look for the film with Shetty, with whom he is collaborating for the first time.

Shetty is known for his out-and-out masala entertainers topped with all elements associated with a Bollywood potboiler.

SIMMBA, presented by Reliance Entertainment, also marks the debut collaboration of Shetty and Karan Johar. It will release on December 28.

Inspired by the works of Manto ASCHARYA F#*K IT trailer is hard-hitting & not for faint-hearted!

"If you find my stories dirty, the society you are living in is dirty. With my stories, I only expose the truth” this is what famous writer, playwright & author Saadat Hasan Manto often used to express in his writings and we are introduced with the same disclaimer in the trailer of upcoming feature film ASCHARYA F#*K IT as well, which fairly gives an idea about, ASCHARYA F#*K IT, being inspired by the works of Saadat Hasan Manto who had sincerely brought out stories of prostitutes and pimps alike, just as he highlighted the subversive sexual slavery of the women of his times. The trailer is laden with explicit content, strong (bold) language, suggestive (read vulgar) scenes, society taboos, etc and it is certainly not for faint-hearted…

While we have witnessed umpteen dark genres, noir films but the high decibel trailer of ASCHARYA …with no-holds-barred approach surpasses in all aspects and it is utterly shocking, hard-hitting and disturbing as it is not a heightened version that is depicted in other films, but a more true version of the city as claimed by the director Samit Kakkad.

The story is about how desire and greed intertwine the lives of a Bollywood star, his chauffeur, a prostitute and her pimp in an unlikely love story. The trailer begins with a sex worker Kanta played by Priyanka Bose, who unabashedly dragging on her beedi, lists out four sexual parts of a woman’s body. “What else will a prostitute talk about?” she asks, looking into the camera.

A bottle of champagne pops up and the director introduces the several characters in Kanta’s life, her pimp, a film star, and a taxi driver.

Starring Priyanka Bose, Santosh Juvekar, Ankit Raaj, Vaibhav Raaj Gupta, the movie will be released digitally through Yoodlee Films, the production division of the music company Saregama.

Strength of positive WOM: HICHKI goes the RAID way to success!

0

Positive word of mouth has more than always proved beneficial to the box-office prospects of a new release. And despite slow starts, films which are not the usual blockbuster or commercial potboiler type, have shown good growth, courtesy a positive WOM and to some extent good reviews as well. While on the other hand a negative WOM sees a film crashing on the very next day of its release, more so if it does not feature a top 5 star. The two March end releases, RAID and HICHKI, proved it yet again.

The first release, Raj Kumar Gupta’s Ajay Devgn-Illeana D’Cruz starrer, RAID, saw a disappointing first day netting under 10 crore but the extremely positive word of mouth and good reviews saw the film ending the opening week with over 60 crore in its kitty, which is simply outstanding. Quite similarly YRF’s Rani Mukerji starrer, HICHKI, which started on a slow note (15 percent) with the first day in the 3-4 crore range, saw a good pick up and ended the weekend with a healthy haul of almost 16 crore, which makes things easier for HICHKI, as it is not a very expensive project.

Well, are the makers who always say- We want to make good films, but the audience only wants entertaining cinema- listening?

John Krasinski related to A QUIET PLACE on a personal level

0

Actor John Krasinski says film A QUIET PLACE came to him when he was dealing with the fear of being a father again.

Krasinski's wife and actress Emily Blunt had given birth to their second daughter back in 2016 when he started working on A QUIET PLACE. He has directed the film as well.

"I was already dealing with all the fears of being a new father – fears of how to keep my daughters safe and how to be a good dad, when this came to me and so I related to it on a deeply personal level," Krasinski said in a statement.

A QUIET PLACE, also starring Blunt, follows a family of four who must live life in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound.

"I felt that within the basic story was such an interesting, and terrifying, metaphor for what it takes to be a parent. I was an open nerve emotionally then, so it was a very powerful time to start imagining how two parents might try to protect their children by doing the impossible, by living without making a sound.

"It just made my imagination explode. There was so much about the idea that I wanted to explore," he added.

On the film, Krasinski said: aceIn ordinary life you try to make sure your kids are happy, healthy, well fed, taken care of and educated, which is a lot to worry about. But in this nightmare world, the stress of being a parent is that times 10,000.

A QUIET PLACE, a Paramount Pictures movie, will be exclusively distributed in India by Viacom18 Motion Pictures. It is slated to open in India on April 6.
