PETER RABBIT Movie Review: For the child in you

0

What happens when the Beatrix Potter’s classic carrot crunchers get transformed into state-of-the-art animation with live action? A cute, funny long distance cousin of PADDINGTON is born.

This adaptation by Will Gluck jointly written with Rob Lieber (HORRIBLE NO GOO, Very Bad Day) with all its acceptable slapstick routines and not acceptable violent turns like electrocutions, beatings with garden rakes, mini bombings (fire crackers) manages to please the kid in the audience.

The popular bedtime reading material for kids first published in 1902 still has its relevance. Peter, the mischievous but adorable rascal who believes he has the right over his favorite vegetables from the garden nearest his den. While the owner of the garden Mr. McGregor, is of the opinion that any intruder into his garden even if it’s a cute and generally harmless rabbit then it is his right to eliminate him. Where you stand it’s your choice as the cool and dapper Peter in those blue jacket and brown slippers comes to life on screen in this present-day England.

The nasty neighbor Mr McGregor (Sam Neill) has died, Bunny (voiced by James Corden) is at top of the world. Nobody can stop him and he is having a gala time in Mr McGregor cottage with his friends. But the fun for Peter aka Bunny is short lived as Mr McGregor’s mean nephew Thomas (Domhnall Gleeson) has inherited his late uncle’s cottage and the same hatred for any intrusion in his garden.

The original short story gets some extra meat in the big screen adaptation where we see the now-orphaned Peter is accompanied by his triplet sisters, Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail (voice by Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki and Daisy Ridley) and cousin Benjamin (Colin Moody). Of course the sweetness of Bea (Rose Byrne) in this English cake is added with delight. Bea feels for the rabbits and loves to paint them. Peter adores Bea while Bea and Peter try to be friends. Thomas hides his hatred towards Rabbits with Bea and a déjà vu of HOME ALONE is felt when Peter and his gang are against Thomas. Here the use of electric security devices and explosives as weapons comes as a warning for the kids belonging to the tender age.

Coming from the same stable (Sony Pictures) PETER RABBIT is no BABE or say STUART LITTLE but shares certain warmth with PADDINGTON. Charmingly mounted with state of the art special effects and animation, PETER RABBIT in spite of its flaws has its moments it doesn’t matter how routinely slapstick or the cliché slo-mo group gangster stroll from RESERVOIR DOGS it can be. As far as the songbirds that rap, tomatoes are launched as hand grenades and a quirky rooster is perturbed by his routine and demands a break, PETER RABBIT delivers the desired fun and plays to please the child in you.

Amitabh Bachchan all set to wrap-up THUGS OF HINDOSTAN

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is all set to wrap-up one of the most awaited films THUGS OF HINDOSTAN which also stars Aamir Khan in the lead role.

The megastar shared about his experience for THUGS OF HINDOSTAN on his blog.

"The work pressure increased. Some issues arose and that did not allow me the liberty of getting out of 'Russia'. Something that can easily come off and on because of the intricate prosthetic make-up for 'Thugs of Hindostan' and the time it takes. So, look a bit Russian too with that woolly cap.

"But work on the 'Thugs of Hindostan' reaches an end soon like for me perhaps tomorrow then there are the promotions to do. Invent and write to execute them… it's work and more work… and it should never stop,"

Produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya (DHOOM 3) THUGS OF HINDOSTAN also stars Katrina Kaif and DANGAL fame Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead roles and is slated to release during Diwali 2018.

Apart from THUGS OF HINDOSTAN, Big B will also be seen along with Rishi Kapoor after 27 long years in 102 NOT OUT which is set to release on May 4, 2018.

Steven Spielberg wants to adapt this book by Stephen King

Steven Spielberg is synonymous with brilliant film making and has carved a career with epic blockbusters since 1970’s with films like JAWS, JURASSIC PARK, READY PLAYER ONE, SCHINDLER'S LIST and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

Now Steven Spielberg is planning to make a film about the Stephen King novel, The Talisman. After the massive success of last year IT, books published by Stephen King have been in huge demand and the rights to The Talisman have been with Spielberg for over three decades.

He said, “Universal bought the book for me, so it wasn’t optioned. It was an outright sale of the book, I’ve owned the book since ’82 and I’m hoping to get this movie made in the next couple of years. I’m not committing to the project as a director, I’m just saying that it’s something that I’ve wanted to see come to theatres for the last 35 years.”

The novel is about a young boy who sets off across a fantasy-inspired alternate America to find an ancient talisman that can cure his mother from cancer.

Although nothing is set in stone yet, but the comments by the director can certainly make us hope for something spectacular if it happens.

Spielberg has just released his film READY PLAYER ONE which is making huge impact at the box office across the world.

Gippy Grewal: Ashamed I didn’t know who Subedar Joginder Singh was

0

Punjabi superstar Gippy Garewal, who plays the title role in SUBEDAR JOGINDER SINGH, says he is ashamed to say he didn't know about the man, who fought off the Chinese invaders during the 1962 Sino-Indian war.

Gippy went through drastic physical and emotional changes for the role.

"It was by far the most difficult role of my career so far. I had to gain 20 kg to look like Subedar Joginder Singh. And then I had to lose it all for my next film CARRY ON JATTA 2, all within a few months," he said.

Gippy says the effort was all worth his while.

"The story of this amazing man had to be told to the world. And I am honoured to be taking his story to the world. I am ashamed to say I didn't know who Subedar Joginder Singh was when I was offered the role. Then I began reading up on him.

"I got to know he was a Paramvir Chakra winner and his valour during the India and China war left me humbled and proud. I was blown away. A hero like Subedar Joginder Singh comes along once in a blue moon. To play him is a privilege."

Luckily for Gippy, gaining and losing all that weight was the least of his problems.

"I can easily lose weight. But I can't gain weight that easily. So my problems came before I started shooting for Subedar Joginder Singh. After the shooting, I had no difficulty losing weight.

"But I had a tough time getting out of the skin and mind of that brave soldier who gave up his life for our country and to get into the fun-and-games mode of CARRY ON JATTA 2. I had to take time off for a few days to leave Subedar Joginder Singh behind. He is someone I don't want to forget."

The film is releasing in Punjabi and a dubbed Hindi version.

"The message of Subedar Joginder Singh's valour must reach to the farthest places possible," Gippy asserted.
