Vikander felt inspired by ‘Tomb Raider’ games

0

Actress Alicia Vikander says she felt inspired playing the Tomb Raider video games as a child.

"I did not have a Playstation at home, sadly – but with my family friends, the boys in their family had a Playstation.

"I was probably I think around ten-ish when I came there. I remember I looked at the TV screen and I had never seen a girl, a woman being the protagonist in a video game and was thrilled and stood there just watching," Vikander told Games Radar.

In fact, the Swedish actress said the first "Tomb Raider" game will always mean a lot to her because it made such a lasting impression, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

She said: "I would say the first 'Tomb Raider' meant a lot, in the sense that I love adventure films, (and here was) a game where I suddenly could go to Egypt, or Atlantis – those were the worlds that I read books about and dreamt to go to when I was a child. That will always mean a lot, because I was quite young."

Even Winfrey has to spell her name at coffee shops

TV and entertainment icon Oprah Winfrey says she once had to spell her name at a popular coffee shop.

Winfrey sat down with her A Wrinkle in Time co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling and opened up to E! News about the "normal people" things they still do on a regular basis.

Although Winfrey can't remember the last time she pumped her own gas, the 64-year-old says she will still get her own coffee, reports people.com.

"Can you imagine writing ‘Oprah' on a coffee cup?" Kaling asked, which prompted Winfrey to recall the last time she placed an order.

"Oh my God, I just went two days ago and the woman said, ‘Name?' and I said, ‘Oprah,' and she said, ‘How do you spell that?'"

The revelation sent the three actresses into laughter, but Winfrey wasn't the only one who struggled to get her name spelled correctly at the chain. Witherspoon also experienced what has become known as a Starbucks tradition.

"Figuring out my Starbucks name," joked the "Big Little Lies" actress last month when she found "Greece" written on the side of her cup. "It's Reese Not Greece," she added.

Peter Andre won’t let his children see him naked

0

Singer Peter Andre has not been afraid to parade his chiseled figure throughout his career, but he says he is not comfortable being naked around his children.

The singer's revelation comes after his wife Emily MacDonagh, 28, said she doesn't "cover up" if they see her in the nude, in order to help them learn what's normal about their bodies, reports dailymail.co.uk.

Andre wrote in his column: "There's nothing wrong with walking around the house naked or sharing a bath together, but I tend to keep myself covered up. Obviously, when the kids were babies it wasn't something I thought about, but now they're older. It's not something I'd feel comfortable doing.

"Again, it's just my way of doing things. There's nothing wrong with families that view it differently to me."

MacDonagh shares two children with the 'Mysterious Girl' hitmaker — daughter Amelia, 4, and son Theo, born in November 2016.

0

The Tamil remake rights of the Suresh Triveni-directed drama-comedy, has been bought by the Chennai-based BOFTA Media Works India, which is currently producing Mr. Chandramouli, starring Karthik, Gautham Karthi, Regina, Varalaxmi and others, directed by Thiru. It has, in the past, successfully distributed films like Zero and Ivan Thanthiran.

Renowned actress Jyotika will play Vidya Balan’s character of Sulu, the housewife-turned-night RJ who becomes an instant hit and perseveres to balance her life as a home-maker and career woman.

Radha Mohan, who will direct the Tamil version, said, “I am excited to be directing such an appreciated film like TUMHARI SULU, and with Jyotika, with whom we had a great association in Mozhi. I was impressed with the realistic presentation of TUMHARI SULU and hope to re-create the magic in Tamil with Jyotika.”

Said Jyotika, “I am a big Vidya (Balan) fan. I love her voice and command over Hindi, which is rare in Bollywood today. I’ve watched every Vidya film, and TUMHARI SULU, in my opinion, is her most lovable work. I feel honoured to be stepping into her shoes. Kudos to the producers and to Suresh (Triveni) for making such a lively, honest, real and feel-good film!”

Said producer G. Dhananjayan of BOFTA Media Works India, “I am glad that Tanuj (Garg) facilitated the rights sale of such a wonderful film by T-Series and Ellipsis Entertainment. We are excited that the film is going to be reprised by a fine actor like Jyotika and directed by the hugely accomplished Radha Mohan.”

Producers Bhushan Kumar (T-Series) and Tanuj Garg, Atul Kasbekar, Shanti Sivaram (Ellipsis Entertainment) jointly stated, “TUMHARI SULU is a truly special film that warmed hearts nation-wide. Ever since its release, we have been inundated with offers from south filmmakers for its remake. Very rarely does a Hindi film get remade in a south language. We have entrusted the Tamil remake to a fine team led by G. Dhananjayan.”

Remarked Vidya Balan, “As a Tamil ponnu (girl), I feel happy about our film being remade in Tamil. TUMHARI SULU is a hugely special film for me and I wish Jyotika all the best in spreading the Sulu love!”

Sridevi’s state funeral: A rare honour that used to be reserved for PMs & ministers

0

Gone are the days when state funerals were initially reserved only for current and former Presidents, Prime Ministers, Union ministers and State Chief Ministers or the martyrs. Now, with changing times the laws have been amended in such a way that the state government can now decide who will be given a state funeral, depending on the stature of the deceased. If the union government has decided for a state funeral then following procedures will be applied to all over India, else if the state government has declared a state funeral then it applies only to the state.

And legendary actress Sridevi was one such rare phenomena to receive State honours by Maharashtra Government at her funeral. The actress, who was conferred Padma Shri in 2013 and was wrapped in the tricolour National flag with elaborate arrangements and was finally given a gun salute before the cremation. She indeed received a starry and overwhelming adieu from the nation. And why not? after all her aura, popularity, admiration, her cherubic persona was such that drove millions of hearts crazy. She was the first female superstar of Bollywood, in the lines of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, who are an industry in itself! Last it was late Shashi Kapoor to receive the gun salute.

Sridevi’s stardom and fandom and number of admirers were unmatchable. It has always been a rise and rise in Sridevi’s life, career and even after the death, the most looked upon actress Sridevi’s gigantic fame, repute , eminence was evident. The actor par excellence, who contributed in Malyalam, Hindi, Tamil & Telugu film industry through her career spanning five decades, escalated to a new level with leaving the heavenly abode in the National Flag wrapped around & a gun salute, which is deserved by rarest of the lot who has contributed immensely for the nation/state/society. We usually attribute the state honors for martyrs, but Sridevi was rarest & distinctive or rather the state honors laws have been changed in a way to cater to maximum significant figures or cover most icons, thereby making it a fairly accessible regard for the desirers.

Gone are the times when contribution was merely restricted to ones who have contributed selflessly, in the benefit of human race, in the development of the nation in any respect. But now state honors has wider reach as the Government takes into consideration the contribution made by the person to the state in various fields like politics, literature, law, science and arts, irrespective of the motive behind it or if the end result is in the welfare of the society.

Sridevi’s contribution to Indian Cinema is memorable, unparalleled & there might never be another ‘Chandni’ (shining star) within us, but eventually it boils down to the fact if her contribution was sans her professional & personal growth. If she was a great actor and set new benchmark in performing arts, then it was also about her individual growth.

But as the times and laws have been transformed, a new outlook towards state honors is being considered and it is seen in a different light now.

In the past we have had state honors for the likes of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba, Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.

Atif refuses to promote Bollywood song, says film’s producer

Pakistani singer Atif Aslam has been repeatedly shrugging off requests to promote his latest song 'Sehmi hai dhadkan' from the forthcoming Bollywood film DAAS DEV, says its producer Sanjeev Kumar.

"Atif said he will do it, but it hasn't been done. I'm not sure why he isn't taking part in the activity, but, as a producer, I see that work promised hasn't been executed," Kumar said in a statement.

"Sehmi hai dhadkan" was launched on February 22 as the first song from Sudhir Mishra's film DAAS DEV, a contemporary take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel 'Devdas'.

Earlier this month, politician Babul Supriyo had asked for a ban on Pakistani artistes working in the Hindi film industry. He had also objected to the inclusion of Pakistan singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice in the film WELCOME TO NEW YORK.

Kumar said: "Normally, such statements are made by fringe groups. When a minister says it, it leaves an impact on more people. But we needed Atif for this song. He has 20 million followers on social media. Imagine the kind of traction we would have got had he promoted it."

DAAS DEV stars Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari and Rahul Bhat. It is scheduled to hit the screens on March 23.
