Sajid fills in for Anurag on ‘Super Dancer Chapter 2’

0

Filmmaker Sajid Khan stepped in to judge dance reality show 'Super Dancer Chapter 2' in the absence of filmmaker Anurag Basu.

Basu couldn't be a part of the shoot as he has was busy with Saraswati Pooja. Last week, Sajid's sister and filmmaker Farah Khan also became part of the Sony Entertainment Television show as a guest.

"I think the Khan family is completely ready to take over 'Super Dancer Chapter 2'. Last week, my elder sister Farah Khan, who I jokingly call my elder brother, was here and today I'm honoured enough to be on the show amongst my dear friends Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Geeta Kapur," Sajid said in a statement.

"Sitting on the judge's chair which belongs to Anurag Basu feels great! He is such a good human being and a good filmmaker. I genuinely want to keep coming on this show not because I've replaced Anurag Basu but because, I am a fan of this show. The kids possess some outstanding talent and I am excited to be here," he added.

Arjun Kapoor on his journey: Highs were amazing, lows a teacher

0

His involvement with Hindi films began when he assisted in the direction and production of films like KAL HO NAA HO, NO ENTRY and WANTED, followed by an acting debut in 2012 with ISHAQZAADE. Actor Arjun Kapoor says his journey so far has been a mix of highs — which were amazing — and lows that have been good learnings.

Arjun has celebrated success with films like ISHAQZAADE and 2 STATES, and faced failures with duds like AURANGZEB and TEVAR.

With just six years' experience and 10 film to his credit, is he happy with the way his career graph is headed?

"There is no reason to complain. The excitement is to do better and more. That's the energy that keeps me going. You have a quest for more. Like I said, I can't complain. The highs were amazing and the lows were a teaching phase. It's been surreal to say the least, and I hope it continues this way," Arjun said.

Arjun, son of producer Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie, has a positive approach to competition in the Hindi film industry, which is attracting huge numbers of newcomers but continues to be ruled by veterans like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan.

"I think that's the beauty. If you are doing well, as in if you have the potential and talent, you will always get work. It's what you do with the work that you get; you can't always be looking over your shoulder. You can't look ahead and behind," Arjun said.

Believing in yourself is a must, he said.

"Put your head down and work, because it's a long race. People tend to make it seem it is like a 100 meter (dash), it's actually a bloody marathon."

The FINDING FANNY actor has just wrapped up shooting for SANDEEP AUR PINKY FARAAR, which is directed by Dibakar Banerjee and also features actress Parineeti Chopra, his co-star from ISHAQZAADE.

Arjun says it was an outstanding experience working for the film, which has been extensively shot in Pithoragarh, Gurgaon and New Delhi.

"It's my 10th film. Dibakar Banerjee is such an acclaimed filmmaker. He has tremendous clarity about what he wants. Some directors have this ability to articulate beautifully and he is one of those," said the actor, who will be portraying a Haryanvi police officer in the film.

Arjun, who was in the capital to unveil the new Audi Q5 last week, feels really proud that he has managed to come all this way and play this gamut of characters.

What's after SANDEEP AUR PINKY FARAAR?

"The only film I am doing next is NAMASTEY CANADA, which starts next month," Arjun said.

NAMASTEY CANADA, directed by filmmaker Vipul Shah, will also star Parineeti. The film will be shot in the serene locations of Punjab and Canada.

Onir: ‘Pehla nasha’ was my all-time favourite song

0

Filmmaker Onir, who has dabbled with the romance genre in his new film KUCHH BHEEGE ALFAAZ, says he chose his all-time favourite track 'Pehla nasha' to feature in it.

Saregama's Yoodlee films' KUCHH BHEEGE ALFAAZ is a modern-day love story in the age of social media, of two characters — RJ Alfaaz, played by debutant actor Zain Khan Durrani and meme artist Archana, played by Geetanjali Thapa.

In the film's trailer, Onir has used the original composition of 'Pehla nasha' from JO JEETA WOHI SIKANDAR.

Onir, who got the rights from Mansoor Khan to use not just the song but also a video clip from the movie, said in a statement: "KUCHH BHEEGE ALFAAZ is the first time I am doing a fully romantic film and when I think of romance I think of the time in college when 'Pehla nasha' was my all-time favourite song.

"My leading man is an RJ who plays romantic songs, so this song fits right for me in this film. I wanted the original song as a homage to 'Pehla nasha'. I feel extremely fortunate to have this song in my film. I have also used a short clip from the original film for which I am lucky that Mansoor sahab gave us the rights to use it."

The film is scheduled for a release this Valentine's Day weekend on February 16.

Lessons Shah Rukh Khan should learn from ‘superhero’ Akshay Kumar

0

Box-offices clashes have mostly been unpleasant in Bollywood, ruining the long-standing equations, associations and best of the friendship as the famous song ‘Sab Ganda Hai Par Dhanda Hai Yeh’ (from COMPANY) states the practical scenario of B-town. Biggest besties have called it quits because of the ugly clash, fighting for a potential money-spinner Friday. While many superstars films’ have clashed at BO, but none took an ugly turn but Shah Rukh Khan’s films.

History has witnessed that most of the times when Shah Rukh Khan’s films have clashed with some other biggie; the result was a ruined equation & friendship. If one recalls when SRK’s JAB TAK HAI JAAN (2012) clashed with Ajay Devgn’s SON OF SARDAAR on the Diwali weekend, how it affected Kajol (being Ajay’s wife) & YRF’s scion Aditya Chopra’s relationship. Days before the release, makers of both films were involved in an unpleasant controversy. Ajay Devgn, who also produced SON OF SARDAAR, filed a complaint in the Competition Commission of India (CCI) alleging that YashRaj Films (the producers of JTJH) used its dominant position in the market to get maximum screens for the film. Rumour mills suggested that SRK’s production company acquired most of the screens leaving little for Eros (producers of SON OF SARDAAR) Ajay failed to get enough screens.

A decade ago, Bollywood faced an ugly showdown in 2007 at the BO as both SRK and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s respective films OM SHANTI OM and SAAWARIYA, which were the launch pads of Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor & Sonam Kapoor respectively, chose Diwali for release. Things went further ugly when SRK in one of the interviews didn’t mince his words in saying that he will destroy the competition. On this SLB retorted that the actor had no right to ‘destroy the work of 150 people’ and with this relationship soured for years.

In the karmic cycle, SRK and Sanjay Leela Bhansali yet again had a face-off after 8 years, when their respective movies DILWALE and BAJIRAO MASTANI arrived on the same date. However, this time around SLB toppled SRK’s film at BO. Though there were enough speculations as to which film will be postponed, but none budged with their decision of arriving on the locked date (December 18, 2015) and went ahead with it. Shah Rukh Khan and Eros owner Kishore Lulla (who produced BAJIRAO MASTANI) even met regarding the release, but things didn’t materialize. In fact things took a turn for the worse in the run up to the release. There was a battle to acquire maximum screens. While SRK most of the time had upper hand over his opponents, he couldn’t salvage DILWALE from BAJIRAO’s stroke at BO.

While Hrithik and Shah Rukh had locked horns over the Republic Day weekend for months as their respective films KAABIL and RAEES were slated to release at the same time. Though initially Roshans and Mr. Khan with Ritesh Sidhwani & Farhan Akhtar, producers of RAEES met to arrive at amicable decision and SRK also requested Rakesh Roshan to push the release of KAABIL. But Rakesh was adamant, as according to him he had decided well in advance about KAABIL release, while RAEES was postponed as the makers & SRK didn’t want to clash with SULTAN, which arrived in Eid long back. While the news of clash didn’t strain their equation, but things took an ugly turn when it was revealed that instead of a 50-50 screen share, exhibitors have picked RAEES over KAABIL with 60-40 screen share. Further when KAABIL moved its date a day earlier i.e. January 25, 2017, SRK going on the same lines took an instant action by preponing RAEES at the same time and releasing alongside KAABIL.

Where clashing with Shah Rukh Khan has been distasteful either some controversy mired up or the film could not withstand SRK’s competition or the end result was a broken friendship, on the other side we have one superstar who showed with his deeds that clashes can be healthy too and if required don’t shy away from showing generosity. Well, well…we are referring to our ‘superhero’ Akshay Kumar.

Our Khiladi Kumar has always been cordial with his opponents, who have arrived on the same day. When his much touted RUSTOM and Hrithik Roshan’s MOHENJO DARO clashed at the BO on the holiday period i.e. August 15, 2016, there was no bad blood or rivalry between the two stars. Both the stars didn’t resort to grabbing-the-more-number-of-screens games nor did they make any remarks about each other or try to topple other one. In fact, as soon as the trailer of Akhshay Kumar's much-talked-about film RUSTOM was unveiled, Hrithik Roshan took to social networking site and heaped praises, at the same time Akshay also reciprocated the gesture and praised Hrithik for bringing on screen the era of Mohenjo Daro.

Besides, sometime back when the news was doing the rounds Akshay’s PAD MAN will clash with his dear friend Neeraj Pandey’s flick AIYAARY, he blatantly stated that both the films are different and there’s nothing like clash. The word clash is media created.

And now the superstar has set a new example in the history of ugly clashes. Well, he has showed that generosity and healthy competition is above anything else. Akki was the first to select January 25, 2018, an extended Republic weekend, for the release of his upcoming film PAD MAN. So, when PADMAAVAT, mired in controversy completely, postponed and chose January 25 as its new release date, Akki stayed calm about it and didn’t ruffle the environment. He was cool about the clash. And when Sanjay Leela Bhansali, director of jinxed PADMAAVAT, requested Akki to move ahead his film, the star seeing the suffering of PADMAAVAT team, decided to give up on the cream time of extended Republic weekend and postpone his film to February 9, 2018. Both SLB and Akshay came together with a joint press conference to announce about the new development and SLB couldn’t thank him enough

In fact the lead stars of the film Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor took to micro-blogging site and praised his gracious deed and sweet gesture. The PADMAAVAT team called him large-hearted as he turned a last minute savior in PADMAAVAT’s bad times.

As SLB said at the press conference that the whole fraternity is proud of what Akshay has done, we totally agree on it! Perhaps our superstars can take a lesson or two from Akshay with regards to clashes, as it’s not about mere cashing in on the holiday period, content is equally important. And when you have good content on hand, it hardly matters if your film is arriving on holiday period or not. So, Akshay’s confidence quite shows here!

Akki, you are indeed a 'superhero'!

No ban on PADMAAVAT, SC clears pan-India Jan 25 release

0

The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked all states to comply with its order not to stand in the way of the release of controversial film PADMAAVAT as it dismissed last ditch efforts by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments to block its January 25 release.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said: "People must understand that the Supreme Court has passed an order and it must be complied with."

"Our order is to be complied with by one and all. A few hundred people come on the street and create a law and order situation demanding ban. That can't be accepted," Misra said.

"You can advise them not to watch the movie if they don't like it. We will not modify our order," the Chief Justice told Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who tried to flag the law and order situation as a ground for blocking release of the film.

The court also dismissed a plea by Akhil Bharatiya Karni Mahasangh, saying: "We are not inclined to modify order" — clearing the decks for the release of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial.

Admitting that maintaining law and order was the state's obligation, Mehta appearing for the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments urged the court to appreciate the ground situation and threat to breach of peace.

"You can't make virtue of creating trouble. You can't first create trouble and then make a virtue of it," said Justice Chandrachud.

Seeking clarification, Mehta said a situation could arise where after the release of the film, there could be trouble in some parts.

"Let the state honour this order. Rest we will deal with when it comes to it," Justice Khanwilkar said.
