William Macy: It’s hard to be man these days

0

Actor William H. Macy believes it is hard to be a man in times when women are coming out and speaking up against sexual misconduct.

After receiving the Screen Actors Guild Award for Male Actor in a Drama Series for his role in SHAMELESS here on Sunday, Macy said he participated in a meeting of Hollywood men related to the Time's Up movement, reports variety.com.

"It is hard to be a man these days. I think a lot of us feel like we are under attack and that we need to apologize, and perhaps we do. We had a meeting. A bunch of guys got together under the auspices of Time's Up. That's good for men. Men don't talk enough. And we talked," he said.

Macy said he sees progress in gender equality in Hollywood.

"In what we do for a living, we have got to be free to speak the unspeakable and try things. So I don't want it to throw a wet blanket on things and I don't feel that it will because half the business is women and they are smart and they are hip," he said.

Noting that he has two daughters, Macy added: "It's a good time to be a girl. I'm proud of this business because such things as safety in the workplace, that is done.

"We are not going back. It's changed. It changed in an instant and it is not going back. When it comes to equality in pay, it is inevitable. It is going to happen and it is going to happen quickly. My hat's off to our business."

Alison Brie: Vital for victims to speak out

Actress Alison Brie, sister-in-law of actor James Franco who has been accused of sexual misconduct by a few women, believes it is important that victims speak up and have the right to do so.

Brie, nominated at the 24th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in GLOW, said "she supports her family and that not everything that's been reported is fully accurate", reports variety.com.

"I think that above all what we've always said is that it remains vital that anyone who feels victimized should and, you know, does have the right to speak out and come forward. I obviously support my family. And not everything that's been reported is fully accurate, so I think we're waiting to get all the information. But, of course, now is the time for listening and that's what we're all trying to do," Brie said on Sunday.

Brie is married to Franco's brother Dave, who appears with him in THE DISASTER ARTIST for which Franco was nominated for a SAG Award.

Franco was accused by five women of sexually inappropriate or exploitative behaviour in a Los Angeles Times report on January 11. It emerged just days after he won the Best Actor Golden Globe Award for THE DISASTER ARTIST. He even wore a Time's Up pin to the ceremony.

Franco has denied the allegations.

Did no signal from Salman lead to Ranveer-Arjun’s NO ENTRY MEIN ENTRY?

The comic caper of 2005 NO ENTRY starring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Lara Dutta, Esha Deol, Celina Jaitley was a hit film. And since the makers, director Anees Bazmee and producer Boney Kapoor have been trying to make the sequel of the film for a while. But somehow superstar Salman Khan’s busy schedule or rather the star is not-so interested at the moment to do a comedy like NO ENTRY MEIN ENTRY, considering his Good Samaritan and heroic image courtesy his current films, has been preventing him to go ahead with it.

On the other hand, we hear that the makers of NO ENTRY were also looking out to cast Akshay Kumar in the sequel. But it seems Akshay also showed a no signal towards it. Now, as per the reports director Anees Bazmee and producer Boney Kapoor after contemplating have arrived at the idea of casting GUNDAY stars Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor in the sequel NO ENTRY MEIN ENTRY. Since Ranveer and Arjun not only make for an interesting jodi on-screen but they also share a good camaraderie, it would be an apt choice to have them in the sequel, as the duo can create magic on the screen with their bromance (like we have been witnessing in real).

Reportedly, Ranveer will be approached to play the role of Prem, originally essayed by Salman, while Arjun will play Kishan, which was portrayed by Anil. However, Ranveer is yet to give a nod for the project. And once he is finalized, then rest of the cast will be roped in

Will not allow PADMAAVAT screening at any cost, warns Karni Sena

Shri Rajput Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi on Monday said "he would not allow Sanjay Leela Bhansali's PADMAAVAT to be released at any cost and warned that if cinema halls went ahead with the January 25 release it would lead to an enormous outburst of people".

He also urged other state governments that want a ban to come together to approach the Supreme Court.

Speaking to IANS, Kalvi said: "We will not allow the film to be released at any cost. The Supreme Court has directed the state governments to ensure release of the film, but not to us (Karni Sena).

"Once the film is released, the outburst of people will be enormous and cinema halls will be responsible for the cost.

"I request other state governments who had earlier declared they would ban the film to come forward and file a petition in the Supreme Court to stop the release of the film."

Kalvi's comments come as the apex court is to hear on Tuesday a plea by the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan governments seeking to block the release of PADMAAVAT.

The counsels for the two states on Monday mentioned the matter for urgent hearing seeking modification/clarification of the court's January 18 order that stayed notification/orders of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana government banning the release of the film in the three states.

The court had directed that no state government would issue an order that might come in the way of the release of PADMAAVAT on January 25.

The Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments have moved the apex court taking the support of the Cinematograph Act where movie screening can be stopped on grounds of law and order in the state.
