SS Rajamouli’s highly awaited film, earlier referred to as SSMB29, has now been officially titled Varanasi. The grand announcement was made during the spectacular GlobeTrotter event at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad on Saturday evening. Along with the title reveal, the makers also showcased an intense visual from the film, unveiling Mahesh Babu’s first look as Rudhra. A gigantic screen was set up at the venue, and videos circulating on social media show the crowd erupting as Mahesh’s powerful teaser lit up the display.
In the striking first-look teaser, Mahesh Babu appears as Rudhra, gripping a blood-smeared trishul while riding a bull, hinting at a fierce, larger-than-life character. The visuals also tease elements of time travel, with the hashtags #GlobeTrotter and #TimeTrotter appearing toward the end. The clip concludes with the bold reveal: “SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi,” officially confirming the film’s title.
Ahead of the event, Priyanka Chopra shared a playful video on her way to Ramoji Film City. Expressing her excitement, she said, “It’s the big day… I am so excited to see everyone there. Do bring your passports and make sure you’re safe. I will keep you posted on all the background stuff.”
Just days earlier, the makers had released Priyanka’s first look from the film, introducing her as Mandakini. Her intense and fiery avatar left fans thrilled, showcasing the massive scale of Rajamouli’s vision. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s first look as Kumbha was also unveiled earlier, sparking a strong response online for his commanding portrayal.

Varanasi is already being described as one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious ventures. A report from Tanzania’s The Citizen suggested that the story follows a rugged explorer on a high-stakes mission through treacherous landscapes, battling nature, ancient mysteries, and a formidable enemy. Inspired by classic adventure tales, the narrative reportedly revolves around uncovering a long-lost secret that could change the world—promising legendary lore, wild terrains, and heart-stopping thrills.
