With just a week to go before the release of Coolie, excitement is at an all-time high. The film, starring Rajinikanth, has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on August 4—marking the superstar’s first adult-rated film in over 36 years.
CBFC Demands Edits and Modifications
According to Bollywood Hungama, the Examining Committee suggested a few changes before granting certification. These included censoring the abusive term “Bd,” replacing the phrase “Thiruvannamalaikku Arogara,” and modifying the name of a liquor brand. The filmmakers were also asked to display an alcohol consumption warning and secure a no-objection certificate (NOC) for using songs from other films.
After implementing the suggested edits, the film received an ‘A’ certificate. Additionally, the makers voluntarily requested to include a 25-second animated visual tribute celebrating 50 years of Rajinikanth’s illustrious career. With this, the total runtime has increased slightly—from 2 hours 49 minutes and 57 seconds to 2 hours 50 minutes and 22 seconds.
Early Morning Shows and High Demand
Coolie is set to clash with War 2 at the box office but is already seeing massive interest. Select theatres in Kerala and Karnataka will begin screenings as early as 6 AM on August 14, while Tamil Nadu theatres will open at 9 AM due to local restrictions. Kerala bookings began on August 8 at 10:30 AM, and demand is expected to grow across states in the coming days.
