Thalapathy Vijay’s Last Film Jana Nayagan Faces Fresh Delay

Vijay’s much-awaited Jana Nayagan faces another delay amid certification issues, pushing its release beyond April 30.

Fans eagerly awaiting Vijay’s final film before his full-time political entry may need to exercise more patience. Jana Nayagan is now unlikely to release before April 30, adding another layer of uncertainty to its already complicated journey.

The latest update came not from the film’s makers but from Canadian distributor York Cinemas, which announced the delay through its official social media platform. The statement confirmed that the movie will not be released before April 30 and advised ticket holders to seek refunds if necessary.

While no revised release date has been announced, the update has sparked disappointment among fans, particularly those overseas who were hoping for clarity.

The delay stems from an ongoing certification dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Originally scheduled for release on January 9, the film’s progress was halted due to certification issues that led to legal proceedings. On January 27, a division bench of the Madras High Court set aside an earlier directive that had instructed the CBFC to certify the film. The court ruled that the board should have been given adequate time to respond.

Subsequently, in February, producer KVN Productions withdrew its petition seeking certification. This move allows the revising committee to review the film afresh.

As of now, the film remains uncertified, and neither the production house nor the CBFC has issued further comments.

The delay also intersects with the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, scheduled to begin in April.

Vijay is expected to enter the political arena through his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), making Jana Nayagan a significant milestone in his career transition from cinema to politics.

With the election timeline approaching, the possibility of a pre-election release now appears increasingly unlikely.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani.

The film is reportedly a remake of the 2023 Telugu movie Bhagavanth Kesari.

For now, Jana Nayagan remains in limbo, with fans still awaiting an official release date for what could be a defining project in Vijay’s career journey.
