Popular television couple Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla, who tied the knot in 2018, welcomed their twin daughters, Edhaa and Jeeva, in November 2023. Since embracing motherhood, Rubina has been candid about her parenting journey, often shedding light on both the joys and challenges. Recently, she opened up about society’s unrealistic beauty standards and how they are imposed even on infants.
“Don’t Bring Comparisons into My Home”
In a heartfelt conversation on her podcast Kisine Bataya Nahi with guest Aakanksha Singh, Rubina addressed a troubling issue how people compare her twin daughters because of their skin tone differences. “My one baby is a little dusky, the other is fair. People come and compare,” she said. Labeling the practice as “bad,” she emphasized that such comparisons are harmful and unwelcome in her household.
Rubina often shuts down such remarks by affirming the unique beauty of each child. “I always tell them, ‘She is beautiful. Look at the complexion. She is amazing. Don’t even bring this comparison in home,’” she shared.
Raising Empowered Daughters
Rejecting traditional fairness remedies suggested by even well-meaning family members, Rubina stated she refuses to use home remedies like ‘dal paste’ or ‘besan’ on her daughters’ skin. Instead, she focuses on nurturing their self-worth. “I whisper to them every day, ‘You are beautiful, strong, fearless, and you will overcome anything,’” she revealed.
Rubina admitted it took her over 30 years to break free from society’s rigid beauty norms and now wants her daughters to grow up embracing their natural selves.
