Bollywood’s reputed banner Yash Raj Films is exploring newer pastures. The coveted banner, who has never released a film in Bengali, is set to do so with its upcoming film GUNDAY starring Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.

Interestingly, GUNDAY is releasing day and date in Bengali along with its Hindi release on Valentine’s Day on 14th of February 2014. Shot extensively in West Bengal, especially Kolkata, the film’s backdrop essentially lends itself to releasing the film in Bengali. Besides, GUNDAY has another strong Bengali connect as Bappi da has given music and this is the first time that YRF and Bappi da have come together.
A spokesperson of GUNDAY says, ”The film is set during Calcutta’s most turbulent times of the 70’s and this is at the soul of the film with the characters seeped in the culture of that time. Consequently, the plans for releasing the film also in Bengali was finalised at the pre-production stage.”
YRF plans to release the teaser poster and teaser trailer in Bengali this week.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra, GUNDAY is indeed one of the big releases of next year!
