Mufasa roars on at the Indian box office. With impressive second-week collections of Rs. 53 crore (Rs. 43 crore Nett), which is only 32% off its robust opening week, this holiday period clearly helped the business of the film sustain. Exceptional holds post-holidays show that audience engagement is indeed sound.

Till date, Mufasa has collected Rs. 129 crore (Rs. 106 crore Nett) / USD 15 million in India. It is the fourteenth Hollywood film to collect over Rs. 100 crore nett in the country. The film has mainly been successful because of the local dubbed versions, with Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu accounting for more than 65% of the total earnings. Star voices like Shah Rukh Khan (Hindi) and Mahesh Babu (Telugu) have added to its appeal. The Hindi version alone accounts for nearly 40% of India’s earnings, while Tamil has grossed over Rs. 21 crore, mainly from a single state. Remarkably, Mufasa is performing better in India than The Lion King did and has reached within 15% of the 2019 blockbuster’s total, whereas globally, the film has experienced a considerable fall.

India is the sixth-largest international market for Mufasa, beating major markets such as China, Korea, and Japan. It leads the chart in viewership with almost 6 million tickets sold within two weeks, making it all the more successful in the region.
