Directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., creators of the popular web series, are experiencing unexpected setbacks following their impressive run in the Indian OTT sector. Following the success of critically acclaimed web series such as The Family Man, Farzi, and Guns & Gulaabs, their current projects have faced controversy and delays.
‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ Falls Flat
Their biggest project, Citadel: Honey Bunny, a spy thriller funded by Prime Video and produced by the Russo Brothers, didn’t perform well. Featuring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the series was heavily promoted alongside its international counterparts but fared poorly on the critics’ front. Sources indicate that with high production expenditure and below-par performance, the Indian Citadel may not see a second season.
Financial Fraud in ‘Rakt Bramhand’ Production
Piling onto their woes, reports also say that Rakt Bramhand, their next Netflix show with Aditya Roy Kapur, Wamiqa Gabbi, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Ali Fazal, is being investigated for a case of financial fraud. Complaints have been made of mishandling Rs 2 crore of funds by the executive producer, leading Netflix to initiate an investigation. The non-mention of the show in Netflix’s release list raised eyebrows as well.
Controversy Around ‘Gulkanda Tales’
Another delay is associated with Gulkanda Tales, a period sex comedy helmed by Tumbbad’s Rahi Anil Barve. Featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Kunal Kemmu, the series is said to have a satirical approach towards feminism and misogyny. Prime Video, however, is said to be dissatisfied with the content and massive re-shoots have raised the budget to Rs 120 crore. The release of the show is therefore uncertain.
‘The Family Man 3’ Offers Hope
Among these, Raj & DK can take comfort in The Family Man 3, which is back on track. Starring Manoj Bajpayee, the series is much-awaited and may bring back their winning streak
