Bollywood’s acclaimed duo, Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, are reuniting after 11 years for an ambitious biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, widely regarded as the Father of Indian Cinema. Known for their past blockbusters like 3 Idiots and PK, the actor-director pair is now all set to bring the story of Indian cinema’s genesis to the big screen.
The untitled project, described as “cinema within cinema,” is expected to begin filming in October 2025. Aamir will begin prepping for the role soon after the release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. Set against the backdrop of India’s independence struggle, the biopic will trace Phalke’s remarkable journey from a struggling artist to the pioneer who laid the foundation of what would become the world’s largest film industry.

The script, in the making for four years, has been penned by Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat Joshi, and writing duo Hindukush and Avishkar Bharadwaj. To ensure historical accuracy, Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson, Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, has contributed valuable anecdotes. Meanwhile, LA-based VFX studios are working on creating AI-driven visuals to accurately portray the era.
This reunion has generated major excitement among fans, especially considering the duo’s history of delivering both critical and commercial successes.

On the professional front, Aamir Khan is making a return to cinema with Sitaare Zameen Par, his first film since Laal Singh Chaddha, which failed at the box office. However, the new film has already courted controversy, facing boycott calls due to Aamir’s perceived delayed support for Operation Sindoor and the resurfacing of an old video showing him meeting Turkey’s First Lady, Emine Erdogan, which stirred fresh backlash online.
