The second season of the Desi version of the American crime thriller series ‘Ray Donovan’ i.e. Rana Naidu series has been released recently. This is an action thriller which has the same tone as its first season. Rana Naidu 2 stars actors like Rana Daggubati, Venkatesh, Arjun Rampal, Surveen Chawla, Kriti Kharbanda, Tanuj Virwani, Sushant Singh and Abhishek Banerjee in lead roles.
Story
Season 2 sees Rana Naidu struggling to protect his family when his son is kidnapped. During this time, he has to confront his past and new enemies. Rana’s life has many ups and downs, including his relationship with his family. The first season of Rana Naidu saw how Rana Naidu cleans up every mess of his family. But this time the story gets even more complicated. Early in the series, Rana’s son gets kidnapped, and Rana, who finds himself caught in a quagmire while trying to save his family, is forced to confront his past and some new enemies this time. Rana is also trying to manage his relationships with his wife, children and siblings, but his work is putting him in more trouble. To add to his troubles is Venkatesh in the role of Naga. Now how will Rana solve all these problems? To know this, you will have to watch this series of ‘Rana Daggubati 2’ on Netflix.

Acting
Rana Daggubati has done a good job this time too. The tall and well-built Rana looks convincing as this smart fixer. Kriti Kharbanda speaks a dialogue for him “Rana Naidu number one fixer is always one step ahead”. Arjun Rampal also suits Rauf’s villain avatar. He has captured the character of this villain very well. Venkatesh entertains as Naga. Tanuj Virwani has done justice to the role he was given. Abhishek Banerjee is a good actor but he doesn’t have much to do.

Writing and Direction
Family drama also forms an important part in Rana Naidu 2. There is an attempt to show Rana’s relationship with his family and the ups and downs in his siblings’ lives well, but there is no character in the series that does not have a grey shade. Every character is a villain in his own right. Every character is betraying someone or the other.
This time, the responsibility of directing the second season of ‘Rana Naidu’ has been taken over by two experts like Karan Anshuman and Suparn Verma. These directors have together tried to speed up the story of Rana Naidu but they got lost in between. The story started getting too long. I think if the story of this 8 episode series was completed in 6 episodes, then perhaps the story would have moved faster.
The language in the script, which became a topic of debate in the first season, has been retained as an important part of the characters’ identity this time as well, but yes, it has been restrained a bit. But still, the ‘style’ of dialogue delivery by the lead characters of the series may make some viewers uncomfortable and in many scenes, it seems that there was no need for abusive language. I feel that in ‘Rana Naidu Season 2’, the huge team of writers like Karan Anshuman, Karmanya Ahuja, Ananya Modi, Ryan Soares and Karan Gaur have created a mess in the name of story, and even Rana himself has failed to put it together. The story of this season directed by Karan Anshuman, Suparn Verma and Abhay Chawla is quite scattered. The entire track of the Oberoi family seems light. Tanuj Virwani’s character has been suddenly removed like horns from a donkey’s head. The pre-climax seems to be a copy of Mirzapur, while the track of the rivalry between Rauf and Rana also does not move forward in a rhythm.

Conclusion
Overall, the second season of ‘Rana Naidu’ has come up with a simple story but this series can be watched by those viewers who liked the carefree style of the first season. If you don’t mind abusive language and want a dash of drama along with action, then you can still watch this series. You will get to see good chemistry between Venkatesh and Rana Daggubati. But if you are looking for a clean story and deep characters, then you can probably watch something else because that is the weak link in this series.
