KIM KARDASHIAN SPARKS DEBATE! Endorses Controversial Stem Cell Therapy in Mexico

Kim Kardashian is under fire after posting about a pricey stem cell procedure she received in Mexico. Reality TV personality, 44, posted on Instagram that she went with her sister, Khloé Kardashian, to Eterna Health—a clinic for regenerative medicine—to have a Muse stem cell treatment performed by Dr. Adeel Khan.

Kim reported having painful shoulder discomfort for two years following a tear of the shoulder while lifting weights. Following numerous failures with treatments in the U.S., she said stem cell treatment allowed her to restore full range of motion and eliminate pain entirely.

“Game-Changer” for Chronic Back Pain
Emboldened by the outcome, Kardashian went back to the clinic for treatment for her chronic back ache. “The Muse stem cell treatment was a game-changer once again,” she said, and that she experienced “instant relief” and that the pain was gone. She thanked Dr. Khan and his staff for providing her with hope “when I thought I had none left.”

Online Criticism Over Accessibility
Even though she was excited, Kardashian’s post attracted criticism from fans who complained about the exclusivity of the procedure. Some of the comments were, “Hey Kim, we’re poor,” and “She paints the picture like we all can connect.” Most were accusing her of showing off and for boosting a procedure that most people could not afford.

The stem cell treatment Kardashian underwent is not yet approved in the United States and can run anywhere from $4,000 to $15,000 per session. Whereas some stem cells are extracted from morally questioning embryonic sources, others are derived from umbilical cord tissue or bone marrow.

Kardashian Acknowledges Privilege
On her post, Kim acknowledged that the treatment “isn’t right or available for everyone,” calling on followers to seek advice from professionals and remain educated. She hoped that advances in medicine will soon make such treatments more available to a wider number of individuals.
