Jacob Elordi Unrecognizable as Frankenstein’s Monster in New Trailer

The Monster is Alive! Jacob Elordi's Frankenstein Trailer Breakdown

As Halloween season begins, Netflix has unleashed a chilling new trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s highly expected adaptation of Frankenstein. The new footage provides the most solid look to date at Jacob Elordi as the reanimated creature, finally allowing fans to see his haunting transformation after earlier keeping his looks largely secret through spooky voiceover and ominous visuals.

Alongside Elordi come Oscar Isaac as the anguished scientist Victor Frankenstein and Mia Goth as Victor’s bride, Elizabeth Lavenza. The trailer promises the movie’s dramatic gothic mise-en-scene and fantasy-tinged imagery — from an otherworldly ship adrift in an icy sea to a decadent ballroom aglow with candles. Del Toro’s personal style is in full force here, combining horror and sorrow in a dark poetic retelling of Mary Shelley’s classic novel.

Frankenstein has already created tremendous buzz on the fall festival circuit. It opened to good word at the Venice Film Festival, after which it made unexpected appearances at Telluride and premiered in red carpet fashion at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). At TIFF, it was voted runner-up for the People’s Choice Award, a strong Oscar indicator.

Guillermo del Toro has always wanted to bring Frankenstein to screen, spending decades working on the project before Netflix finally greenlit it. His adaptation threatens a more emotional and contemplative reinterpretation of the classic monster story, rooted in tragedy, humanity, and aspiration.

Featuring a star-studded cast and innovative director at the reins, Frankenstein is positioned to be a top contender this awards season — and a must-see this spooky season.
