The Wait is Over: “Marty Supreme” Premieres at NYFF with Timothée Chalamet Delivering a Career-Best Performance

"Marty Supreme" Premiere at NYFF: Timothée Chalamet's Powerful Performance Sparks Oscar Buzz and Critical Acclaim

Timothée Chalamet is making waves with his latest project, Marty Supreme, where he takes on the eccentric role of Marty Mauser, an infamous table tennis prodigy. Directed by Josh Safdie and featuring an ensemble cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher, the film had its secret screening at the 2025 New York Film Festival and received a thunderous standing ovation.

Social media buzzed with immediate reactions. Film critic Rendy Jones posted on X, “All Standing Ovations for MARTY SUPREME. Brought the house down tonight at #NYFF63. Haven’t heard applause like this all festival.” Another attendee, MKUltraMoney, wrote, “This is another Safdie masterpiece — even more anxiety-inducing than Uncut Gems. Timothée Chalamet proves he’s an incredible actor when given real material. Best film of the year.”

Brandon Lewis echoed the sentiment, calling it “a pure delight,” and praising Safdie’s chaotic, globetrotting narrative that explores the inflated ego of a troubled sports prodigy. “Any doubts that Chalamet is a movie star are dead,” he added.

Dancin’ Dan praised the film’s retro energy and score by Daniel Lopatin, calling it “an ’80s-styled, ’50s-set sports movie” with an electric vibe. “A bit too long, but the ending makes it worth it.”

However, not all feedback was glowing. One user, ‘uns*xuaIIy’, criticized the film as “a lazy cash grab by A24” and expressed disappointment, though they admitted Kevin O’Leary delivered a standout performance.
