Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has announced that she will no longer discuss Donald Trump or politics in interviews. Speaking on The New York Times podcast with Lulu Garcia-Navarro, the Hunger Games star reflected on how her outspoken views during Trump’s first term drew intense reactions. “I don’t really know if I should,” she admitted. “I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart. We are so divided.”
Lawrence explained that she has rethought how she communicates publicly after witnessing the polarizing effects of political discourse. The actress now worries that her comments might alienate audiences and distract from her work. “If I can’t say something that’s going to speak to some kind of peace or lowering the temperature or some sort of solution, I don’t want to be a part of the problem,” she said.
While she’s stepping back from overt political discussions, Lawrence continues to express her beliefs through her production work. Recent projects include Bread and Roses, which highlights the struggles of Afghan women, and the abortion-rights documentary Zurawski v. Texas. “I try to express my politics through my work,” she shared, emphasizing her goal to inspire empathy and understanding without division.
The actress also opened up about the personal challenges of fame, admitting that media scrutiny and Hollywood pressures once left her feeling defensive and overwhelmed. “I was young and nervous and awkward,” she said, adding that she now prioritizes authenticity and calm over “a bunch of sound bites and a word salad.”
Currently promoting her new film Die My Love, which releases on November 7, Lawrence says she hopes her storytelling can bring people together rather than push them apart.
