Aanand L Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, continues to draw audiences to theatres even as it enters its second week. The romantic drama, which released on November 28, opened to solid numbers and has successfully maintained its grip on the box office despite facing intense competition from Ranveer Singh’s action-packed blockbuster Dhurandhar. The film’s emotional core, soulful music, and strong performances have helped it sustain momentum in a crowded release schedule, emerging as one of the most talked-about romantic dramas of the year.
On Thursday, Colour Yellow Movies—the production house behind the film—officially announced the latest box office figures on their X handle. According to their update, Tere Ishk Mein has crossed the ₹150 crore milestone worldwide, bringing its total collection to ₹152.01 crore. The team shared the achievement with a celebratory post, calling it a moment of pride for the makers and a testament to the audience’s love for the story of Shankar and Mukti.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has already entered the ₹100 crore club domestically, marking a significant milestone for a romantic drama in today’s action-driven, high-budget market. The film’s net domestic collection currently stands at ₹107.5 crore. As of 2 p.m. on its fourteenth day, the film collected ₹35 lakh, continuing to attract steady footfall in theatres. The film’s highest single-day earning remains ₹19 crore, which it achieved on its first Sunday—a sign of strong word-of-mouth during the opening weekend.
However, the film’s box office journey has not been without challenges. Tere Ishk Mein faced major competition when Dhurandhar released a week later and rapidly took over screens across the country. The spy thriller, directed by Aditya Dhar and featuring Ranveer Singh in an intense lead role, stormed the box office upon arrival, registering extraordinary numbers despite mixed critical reception. As a result, Tere Ishk Mein saw a noticeable dip in screens and shows, especially in multiplex chains. Nevertheless, the Dhanush–Kriti starrer managed to hold its ground, owing to its emotionally rich storytelling and the loyal audience base that continued showing up for its performances and music.
At its heart, Tere Ishk Mein tells the deeply layered and emotionally charged love story of Shankar (Dhanush) and Mukti (Kriti Sanon), whose journey begins in the vibrant corridors of Delhi University. As young students, their romance blooms early but ends abruptly when Mukti breaks up with Shankar. The heartbreak becomes even more intense when her father humiliates Shankar, belittling him for his lower-class background and questioning his ability to aim higher in life.
This turning point becomes the emotional core of the film. Devastated but determined, Shankar resolves to change his life. He puts all his energy into studying and eventually clears the highly competitive UPSC examinations, earning a prestigious position and proving his worth—not just to himself, but to the world that once dismissed him.
Years later, fate brings Shankar and Mukti back into each other’s lives. The film explores how time, maturity, and life experiences shape the way they confront their past and deal with unresolved feelings. The narrative examines whether love truly survives the weight of ego, class differences, missed opportunities, and societal expectations. Their reunion becomes the catalyst for a rollercoaster of emotions, leading to revelations, heartbreak, hope, and ultimately the question of whether love can indeed endure decades of separation.
The film is strengthened by a stellar supporting cast that includes Prakash Raj, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, and Vineet Kumar Singh, each delivering impactful performances that enrich the narrative. Prakash Raj’s portrayal of a strict, socially rigid father figure adds depth to the class divide shown in the story. Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub brings both humour and emotional grounding, while Vineet Kumar Singh adds intensity to every scene he appears in.
Director Aanand L Rai successfully brings to life a story that blends simplicity with emotional intensity. His signature filmmaking style—marked by relatable characters, heartfelt dialogues, and immersive storytelling—helps Tere Ishk Mein stand out in a genre that often struggles to balance realism with dramatic flair. The film’s music, composed by a team of celebrated artists, plays a crucial role in elevating key emotional moments, making several tracks favourites among listeners.
Despite external pressures from big-budget releases, Tere Ishk Mein continues to grow through strong content and audience loyalty. As it enters deeper into its theatrical run, the film remains a significant success for all involved—marking another powerful performance by Dhanush, a memorable role for Kriti Sanon, and a rewarding achievement for director Aanand L Rai.
