The opening weekend often decides how a film will perform in the long run and for Dacoit the early signs are not very strong. The action drama starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur has completed its first three days in theatres but the growth that is usually expected over the weekend is missing. Sunday collections are especially important because they show whether more people are coming to watch the film through word of mouth. In this case the numbers have stayed almost the same which is not a great sign.
According to industry tracking reports the film earned around 6.40 crore on Sunday. This is slightly lower than its Saturday earnings of 6.85 crore and very close to its opening day figure of 6.55 crore on Friday. Ideally a film should see a clear jump on Sunday but Dacoit has remained flat. So far the total India gross stands at about 23.41 crore while the net collection is around 19.80 crore after three days.
The film had faced delays before its release. It was earlier planned for March 19 but had to be pushed. Adivi Sesh explained that the team was struggling to get enough screens because another big film Dhurandhar was already performing very well in theatres. He also said that big films can dominate screens for months but there is always space for different types of cinema and audiences can choose what they want to watch.
Dacoit tells the story of two former lovers who come back together for a series of robberies that change their lives. The film also features strong supporting actors like Prakash Raj and Anurag Kashyap. It is directed by newcomer Shaneil Deo and produced under the Annapurna Studios banner.
The response from critics has been mixed so far and now the coming weekdays will be very important. If the film does not show growth soon it may struggle to maintain its run at the box office.
