The Odyssey continues to maintain a steady run at the Indian box office in its fourth week. The Matt Damon starrer collected an estimated Rs. 1.65 crore on its 4th Monday. This marks a drop of around 40 per cent from its 4th Friday collection and a 35 per cent decline compared with the previous Monday.
With this latest collection, The Odyssey has taken its running total to Rs. 203 crore gross in India. The film has already crossed the Rs. 200 crore mark, giving it another strong milestone in its theatrical run. Based on the current trend, the movie is expected to collect around Rs. 18 to 19 crore during its fourth week. This could take its total to approximately Rs. 207 to 209 crore by the end of the week.
The film is then expected to continue its run for some more time. Based on its present performance, The Odyssey could finish its complete theatrical run in India somewhere around Rs. 215 to 225 crore. The final figure will depend on how strongly it continues to perform in the coming weeks.
One of the biggest factors behind the film’s strong performance in India has been director Christopher Nolan. Over the years, Nolan has built a strong audience in the country. His name has become closely associated with big screen filmmaking and complex stories. His recent films have also shown that his audience has grown considerably.
The response to The Odyssey is particularly notable because its subject is not the type of genre that has traditionally performed at such a high level in India. Oppenheimer also showed a similar trend, becoming a major success despite dealing with a subject that was not traditionally considered mainstream entertainment for the Indian audience.
The Odyssey opened with Rs. 104.50 crore in its first week and added Rs. 55.25 crore in its second week. It then collected Rs. 4.00 crore on its 3rd Friday, Rs. 7.00 crore on Saturday and Rs. 7.25 crore on Sunday. Its 4th weekend brought in Rs. 12.60 crore before the estimated Rs. 1.65 crore collection on Monday.
The film now stands at Rs. 203 crore gross in India and is expected to continue its theatrical run in the coming weeks.
