Krishnavataram Part 1: Hridayam continued its run at the Hindi box office with a decent second weekend performance. The mythological fantasy drama collected around Rs. 3 crore nett on its second Sunday, although the figure showed a 30 per cent drop compared to Saturday. The film finished its second weekend with collections of around Rs. 6 crore nett, which is almost similar to its opening weekend performance.
After two weeks in theatres, the total Hindi box office collection of Krishnavataram Part 1: Hridayam has now reached Rs. 17.75 crore nett. Considering that the film does not feature major stars and had a limited release size, the collections are being viewed as reasonable. However, the performance is still not considered strong enough because of the film’s reported high production budget.
Directed by Hardik Gajjar, the film now needs much stronger trends during the coming weeks if it hopes to finish with a respectable lifetime total. Trade observers believe the movie should ideally have shown stronger weekend growth in its second week.
Comparisons are also being made with Mahavatar Narsimha, which released last year. That animated mythological film was based on two avatars of Lord Vishnu and had started with only Rs. 1.25 crore nett on its opening day. However, the film saw massive growth over its first weekend, collecting Rs. 3.25 crore nett on Saturday and Rs. 6.25 crore nett on Sunday. It eventually ended its run with around Rs. 170 crore nett in Hindi.
Krishnavataram, which focuses on the Krishna avatar in a live action format, has not shown a similar level of growth so far. At the same time, trade experts point out that mythological films can often be unpredictable at the box office. Last year, films like Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahayate had very low collections during the initial weeks before suddenly witnessing a sharp rise later in their theatrical run.
