Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has spoken about relating closely to a “reverse nepotism” dialogue in her upcoming legal drama System. In a recent interview ahead of the film’s release, the actress shared that the scene reminded her of advice she received from her father, veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, during the early days of her acting career.
Directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, System features Sonakshi in the role of Neha Rajvansh, a young public prosecutor. In the story, she teams up with a court stenographer played by Jyotika to fight a murder case involving a powerful businessman.
In the film, Neha comes from a family of lawyers. Her father, played by Ashutosh Gowariker, is shown as one of the country’s leading defence lawyers. However, instead of helping her directly, he asks her to prove herself independently before joining the family firm. This leads to a moment in the film where Neha asks her father, “What kind of reverse nepotism is this?”
Speaking about the dialogue, Sonakshi said it felt very relatable to her own life and career experiences.
“Honestly, that’s been the case with me. My father has always told me, ‘You have to prove yourself’. Because he was like that. It doesn’t matter who you are; you have to prove yourself to get ahead in life, and that’s how you get what you deserve. So that was also something that was very relatable,” Sonakshi recalls.
The actress also explained that one of the main reasons she agreed to do System was because of the social issues discussed in the film. According to her, the story raises questions about situations and problems that people often ignore in daily life.
“The film addressed so many issues that we may not even think of. These are derived from real people, real incidents, and things happening around us. At a lot of points, the film makes you question things. Any film that gets you started thinking about stuff is a good film,” says Sonakshi.
Sonakshi Sinha made her Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan in Dabangg in 2010. She later appeared in films like Rowdy Rathore, Son of Sardaar and Holiday. In recent years, she received praise for her performances in streaming projects such as Dahaad and Heeramandi.
System is scheduled to release on Amazon Prime Video on May 22.
