Raja Shivaji Creates History As It Becomes The Highest Grossing Marathi Film In India

Raja Shivaji has crossed Rs. 109 crore at the Indian box office, becoming the highest grossing Marathi film in India during its run.

Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji continued its theatrical run with an estimated collection of Rs. 1.20 crore during its fifth weekend. The latest earnings came after a 65 per cent drop compared to the previous weekend, taking the film’s total Indian box office collection to approximately Rs. 109.45 crore gross. This figure includes earnings from both the Marathi version and the Hindi dubbed release.

After spending several weeks in cinemas, the historical drama is now nearing the end of its theatrical journey. Based on current trends, the film is expected to finish its run with a total collection between Rs. 110 crore and Rs. 112 crore gross in India.

The film’s performance has helped it achieve a significant milestone. Raja Shivaji has emerged as the highest grossing Marathi film in India in terms of overall domestic collections. This achievement highlights the growing reach of Marathi cinema beyond its traditional audience base.

At the same time, the film’s performance within Maharashtra has drawn comparisons with some of the state’s biggest successes. While Raja Shivaji has performed strongly, it is expected to remain behind films such as Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva in the Marathi market. Since Maharashtra remains the core audience base for Marathi films, comparisons with those titles are inevitable.

There were also expectations that Raja Shivaji could match the scale of success achieved by historical films such as Tanhaji and Chhaava in Maharashtra. Those films recorded exceptionally high collections in the state, with Tanhaji’s earnings adjusting to around Rs. 250 crore in today’s value and Chhaava crossing Rs. 300 crore. In comparison, Raja Shivaji is not expected to reach the Rs. 100 crore mark within Maharashtra alone.

Despite not matching those numbers, the film has still delivered a notable box office performance and established itself as one of the major successes of the year for Marathi cinema. Its nationwide collections reflect strong audience interest and support over several weeks.

The success of Raja Shivaji has also contributed to a positive year for the Marathi film industry. Alongside the strong performance of Deool Band 2, the film has helped bring greater attention to regional cinema in 2026.
