Hollywood horror film Obsession has continued its impressive performance at the global box office and has now made a notable impact in India as well. After attracting attention in North America over the past two weeks, the film recorded a strong opening weekend in India, collecting approximately Rs. 9.25 crore gross, which translates to around Rs. 7.50 crore nett. The film also earned about USD 975K during its opening weekend in the country.
The opening is particularly significant because independent horror films generally face challenges in attracting large audiences in India. Most horror films that perform well at the Indian box office are usually backed by major studios or belong to established franchises. In comparison, Obsession has managed to draw audiences without the support of a major horror universe or a long running film series.
The film opened with approximately Rs. 1.60 crore on Friday. Collections then showed a sharp rise on Saturday, nearly doubling from the opening day figures. On Sunday, the film continued its upward trend and earned around Rs. 3.75 crore, reflecting a growth of roughly 15 per cent compared to Saturday. The growth came despite competition from the IPL final, which traditionally affects cinema footfalls and television viewership across the country.
Industry observers believe that the film could have earned even more on Sunday if not for the cricket match. However, the impact is not expected to significantly affect its overall performance. Early booking trends for Monday indicate stronger advances than those seen on Friday, suggesting that audience interest remains steady even after the opening weekend.
The film’s performance during weekdays will provide a clearer indication of its long term box office potential. Based on current trends, Obsession appears capable of crossing Rs. 30 crore in India. If the positive response continues, the final collection could be considerably higher.
Another point that has attracted attention is the film’s reported production budget of around USD 750K. Compared to its current global performance, the film has already demonstrated strong returns relative to its cost.
The success of Obsession adds to a growing list of Hollywood releases that have performed well in India during 2026. With several major international releases still scheduled for later in the year, including highly anticipated franchise films, industry analysts will be watching closely to see whether the current momentum continues in the months ahead.
