Disney has released the first trailer and poster for Hexed, a new animated film that tells the story of a teenager who unexpectedly discovers magical powers. The movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 25, 2026, and marks Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 65th animated feature.
The story centers on Billie, a teenage girl voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. Billie lives a normal life with her mother Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones. However, her world changes when she accidentally unlocks hidden magical abilities. This unexpected event takes her away from her everyday surroundings and into a secret magical realm known as Hexe.
As Billie enters this new world, she meets several unusual characters who help guide her through the mysteries around her. Among them are Ms. Quill, an enchanted feather quill pen voiced by Tracey Ullman, and Elias Quire, a magical journal voiced by Stephen Fry. Both characters play important roles as Billie tries to understand her powers and the secrets connected to them.
The trailer shows Billie navigating a world filled with magic, strange creatures, and unexpected challenges. During her journey, she begins to uncover long hidden family secrets. These discoveries could have a major impact on the magical world and the future of witches living within it. The story combines elements of fantasy, adventure, and self discovery as Billie learns more about herself and her place in this unfamiliar environment.
Director Fawn Veerasunthorn shared insight into the character’s journey, saying, “A wonderfully strange phenomenon is happening all around Billie, something she can’t explain. She’s someone who has felt miscast in her own life, and it takes leaving her normal world behind and entering a hidden world of wild, unhinged magic to begin to understand herself.”
The film explores themes of identity, belonging, and family while following Billie’s transformation from an ordinary teenager into someone facing extraordinary circumstances. Her experiences in Hexe force her to confront questions about her past, her abilities, and her future.
Hexed is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, with Josie Trinidad serving as co director. The film is produced by Roy Conli and Yvett Merino. With its focus on magic, family secrets, and personal growth, the movie introduces a new original story to Disney’s animated film lineup.
