After becoming one of the most recognizable faces of horror cinema in India, Emraan Hashmi is set to headline ROOH, a new musical horror film that is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2027. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. ROOH is directed by Mayank Sharma, who is known for creating and directing the acclaimed Breathe franchise for Prime Video. The film combines horror, music and emotional storytelling, with the makers aiming to create a large scale theatrical experience for audiences.
The story has been written by Mayank Sharma and Vishal Kapoor, who is known for films such as Lapachhapi and Chhorii. The project is being produced by Vikram Khakhar and Sunny Khanna under the banner of Vicked Films Productions.
Speaking about the film, Emraan Hashmi shares, “ROOH is a film that immediately connected with me because it brings together new-age horror, emotion and music in a very powerful way. This is a space that audiences have always associated with me, and the world Mayank is creating feels intense, emotional and cinematic. That is what excited me the most about ROOH, and I am really looking forward to audiences experiencing it on the big screen.”
Director Mayank Sharma also spoke about the project and said, “As someone who has always loved the horror genre…ROOH is my attempt to create a film that goes beyond fear. It’s emotionally layered and immersed with unsettling atmosphere and presented with contemporary cinematic treatment… I’m thrilled to collaborate with Emraan for this deeply layered character. My entire team and I hope to bring audiences a truly unique and unforgettable horror experience.”
According to the makers, ROOH is being developed as a film that combines supernatural elements, emotion and music. The project also places strong focus on its soundtrack, a feature often associated with many of Emraan Hashmi’s popular films.
Industry sources suggest that the film is being planned with a larger international vision and may involve global creative and technical collaborations to enhance its visual scale.
More than a conventional horror film, ROOH aims to bring together fear, emotion, music and supernatural themes in a single cinematic experience. With Emraan Hashmi leading the cast and Mayank Sharma directing, the film is one of the notable horror releases currently scheduled for 2027.
