Alia Bhatt has officially joined the cast of Tumbbad 2. Actor and producer Sohum Shah announced the news on Tuesday, July 14, through a post on Instagram. He shared a picture with Alia in which both were seen wearing black outfits. Along with the photo, he wrote, “A new chapter unfolds. Welcome to #Tumbbad2, @aliaabhatt #PralayAayega. See you at the movies.”
The announcement comes a few months after the makers confirmed that Tumbbad 2 will release in cinemas on December 3, 2027. Before revealing the release date, the team had been sharing a motion poster and several social media posts that created curiosity about the sequel.
Earlier, Sohum Shah had also shared the film’s poster and gave a glimpse of what audiences can expect from the story. Along with the poster, he wrote, “A sinful past, an ominous future. The hunger rises; the legacy of greed continues.”
Talking about the sequel in a press release, Sohum Shah said, “Tumbbad has always been very special to me, and with Tumbbad 2, the idea is to take that world forward in a way that feels deeper and more expansive. We are building on the mythology and atmosphere that audiences connected with while exploring new layers within the story. It is something that will feel familiar in its essence, but also new in the way it unfolds.”
The upcoming film is directed by Adesh Prasad and produced by Sohum Shah under the banner of Sohum Shah Films in association with Pen Studios. The film will be distributed by Pen Marudhar.
Apart from Alia Bhatt and Sohum Shah, the sequel will also feature Nawazuddin Siddiqui in an important role. The makers have not yet shared details about the characters or the plot. However, with the return of the film’s dark world and the addition of new cast members, Tumbbad 2 has become one of the most talked about upcoming films. More information about the story, trailer, and the rest of the cast is expected to be announced closer to the film’s release on December 3, 2027.
